Larry North Obituary

Larry E. North

Poughkeepsie - Larry E. North tied his last lure and cast his line on Sunday, September 6, 2015. Born November 9, 1948 to Howard and Genevieve (Brown) North, he was a Poughkeepsie native. He graduated Roosevelt High School in 1966. Larry enlisted in the US Army and served his tour of duty as a medic in Germany.

After his discharge he worked at Vassar Brothers Hospital for 30 years as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. He was an active union delegate for 1199 SEIU. After his first retirement, he worked for St. Francis Hospital, then Northeast Radiology in Brewster when he retired for the second time.

In retirement, he discovered his passion - photography. It began with flowers in his carefully tended gardens which grew into - birds and bees, swans on the pond, all nature and then local architecture. His only foray into people were photo's of his family and of the neighbors with their children. He was an avid contributor to the Hudson Valley Photography Club and was published in the Poughkeepsie Journal. In retirement he spent endless days fishing in Rhode Island or golfing Valley links with his best buddy Don Faulkner. Last year he sojourned through the west visiting his army buddy Bradley Anderson, California and work colleague, Nick Genovese, Arizona.

Larry is survived by the love of his life, Claudia (Pritts) North, Poughkeepsie; sister, Carol Anderson, The Villages, Fl.; daughter, Madeleine North, East Fishkill; step-son Scott Kreinbrook, Scottdale, Pa.; Alice North Sanderson; Mojo (Mr. Man) his cat and a large network of family and lifelong friends.

Visiting hours will be Thursday, September 10 from 5-8 pm at Parmele, Auchmoody & Schoonmaker Funeral Home, 110 Fulton Ave. Poughkeepsie.

In lieu of flowers his family requests a donation to Disabled American Veterans or the SPCA.

Another soul who left too soon... Many were the evenings I hung on the reception counter at the Vogelweh dispensary where you worked because I could not face going home. Then one day you took me in, and my adult life began From the hippie girl in K-Town who sat beside you in your parked Volkswagen listening to Neil Young, staring approvingly at the extremely well-groomed German Holsteins in the pasture and wondering what the future would bring. Thank you, Larry, and Godspeed.

We sadly never met in person, and will regret that on my visit to relatives 5yrs ago I couldn't find the time. You encouraged me to pick up a camera and see where it led. I guess you wont make it here for the golf trip you we laughed about but my friend as promised I will buy you that pint of black stuff when we meet in that oul Irish bar in a better place. . Will miss you and our silly banter lots. Slainte.. Michele. Co Kildare
