Lawrence M. O'Brien
Gulf Shores, AL - Lawrence M. O'Brien a resident of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and a former resident of the Hudson Valley area of New York State, entered into eternal rest on January 24, 2018, after a long battle with cancer. He died at home with his wife Marilyn and family present.
Larry was born October 2, 1937 in Brooklyn, New York the son of the late Christopher and Mary Powers O'Brien. He is a graduate of Marist College, Poughkeepsie, New York, and is a veteran of the armed forces serving honorably in the United States Air Force. He enjoyed a career in sales which led him to be a successful entrepreneur owning the Osborne Inn restaurant in Fishkill, New York, and Delta Distributors, a high-end snack item company.
He served on various planning committees in both New York and Alabama. He served as president of the Southern DutchessCountry Club, Beacon, New York for two years and as President of the Craft Farms Property Owners Association, Gulf Shores, Alabama for ten years. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years.
Larry is survived by his wife of 40 years, Marilyn Weiss O'Brien, six children Chris O'Brien (Bridget), Kelly Formicelli(Joe), Bridget Chirico (Jim), Kathleen O'Brien, Shawn O'Brien, and Mary Sommers (Steve) and eight grandchildren, Max and Amanda Voege (Kelly Formicelli), Patrick and Quinlan Canary (Kathleen O'Brien), Brittany and Mackenzie Chirico and Jack and Lily Sommers. He is also survived by a sister, CatherineO'Brien and a brother Bill, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 302 E. 22nd Avenue, Gulf Shores, Alabama. Interment will be at a later date. Visiting and remembrance will be held in Our Lady of the Gulf community hall adjacent to the church from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Mass will follow at 11:00a.m. Interment will be private at BarrancasNational Cemetery at a time convenient for family.
