LeeOna Velano Obituary
Hyde Park - LeeOna M. Velano, 92, a lifelong area resident, died on Tuesday, August 6, 2019, at the Renaissance Rehabilitation & Nursing Care Center in Staatsburg.
Born April 16, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Jen O'Rourke.
LeeOna worked in the Foodservice Department at the Hudson River State Hospital for many years until her retirement.
She enjoyed doing word search and jigsaw puzzles, and watching game shows. Along with her daughter, she was also a NY Yankee fan.
On May 9, 1948 in Poughkeepsie, she married James J. Velano. Her husband predeceased her on August 19, 1989.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan O'Hearn, and husband, Karl, of Hyde Park; son, James L. Velano, and wife, Patricia, of Florida; nine grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her daughter, Linda Douglass; and son, Wesley Velano.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 PM, Thursday, August 8th at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rt. 9, Hyde Park.
Funeral services will be at 10 AM, Friday, August 9th at the Funeral Home. Rev. Arlene Dawber will officiate.
Burial will follow in the family plot at Union Cemetery of Hyde Park.
