Linda Tamm Obituary

Linda Tamm

Rhinebeck - Linda Tamm, 75, a longtime Rhinebeck resident, passed away peacefully after a five-month battle with cancer on Friday, August 24, 2018. Born March 3, 1943, in Littleton, NH, she was the daughter of the late Bert and Marjorie (Parker) Reid.

Linda grew up in Littleton, NH on a farm. Her parents had a real estate business. She participated in the 4H Club, played the flute in the high school band, and was active in the Congregational Church and its Pilgrim Fellowship. She did a lot of babysitting. After graduating from Littleton HS, she received an AA degree from Vermont College and a BS and MS from SUNY Plattsburgh.

That love of children, led to her career as a preschool teacher first in Utica, NY and then a primarily as a kindergarten teacher in the Red Hook Central School District. It is at the Red Hook Schools, where she met her future husband, Raivo Tamm. Linda married Ray on August 22, 1970 in Littleton, NH. He predeceased her on September 28, 2010. She loved music, being with her girlfriends, and traveling, but most of all, spending time with her granddaughter.

Linda was an active member of Reformed Church of Rhinebeck, where, over the years, she was a member of the Consistory, sang in the choir, played her flute and the piano occasionally. She was a member of its Dorcas Guild and worked on the annual Apple Harvest Festival. She was also active in, and had been an officer, in the local AARP organization and the Northern Dutchess Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered in its Thrift Shop and Birthing Center. She helped with books for the blind, was a docent at the Old Schoolhouse, volunteered for Rhinebeck at Home, and participated in a retired teachers' book club and luncheon group.

Linda is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian & Rebecca Tamm and loving granddaughter Daphne of Rhinebeck, NY; her brother and sister-in-law, Mac & Beth Reid of Boxborough, MA; nieces, Kimberly Laster of Stow, MA and Kerry Tower of Marlborough, MA, and their families, along with extended family in the US and Canada and countless friends. She was a friend to all and enjoyed the relationships with family and friendships from the church, school and community. She will be missed by many.

Friends may call at the Rhinebeck Reformed Church - Cordes Hall on Saturday, September 1, 2018 from 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon at the Rhinebeck Reformed Church, 6368 Mill Street, Rhinebeck, NY 12572. Pastor Luis R. Perez will officiate. A reception will be held after the service in Cordes Hall. Interment will follow at Rhinebeck Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Linda's memory to the American Cancer Society and the Rhinebeck Reformed Church.

I offer my condolences to Linda's family.

I was close friends with Ray as we were two of the three who successfully completed the engineering program at Dutchess in the first class (1960).

Ray was an usher at our wedding and I was an usher at Ray and Linda's wedding in NH.

We kept in touch to varying degrees over the decades, including dining together several times, even after Ray's passing.

I have a lot of good memories as I am sure you all have.
