This is such a great memorial to have after someone has passed away. I am very fortunate because I just had a new grandson and when my son and daughter-in-law told me that they were calling the baby Lorenzo, how could I not recall my former classmate, Lorenzo Calvi? I told them about what a great guy he was and that we practically grew up together through 2 schools. Funny, but I will always have a reminder of a great guy and classmate.

I no longer live in NY, but have never found a better slice of pizza than what you could get from King Pizza. I spent many afternoons eating and BSing there, and hope that the next generations have something like this for their afternoons as well.

Thank you Larry, for those great times we had at King Pizza. As a Patriot Guard Rider, thank you Larry for your service to this country. You will be missed.

Dear Mary,
So sorry for your loss. Larry was a huge part of my childhood. Hanging out in King pizza, playing Donkey Kong and being called Carol. One of many happy memories growing up in Hastings.
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

To Mary & Family, who could ever forget Lorenzo (Larry) from Hawthorne JHS. So sad for your loss, words cannot express. Lorenzo earned his reward in Heaven "well done, my good & faithful servant" until we meet again.

To the Calvi family: I am sorry for your loss. I grew up in Hastings, and Larry was a part of all our childhoods. He was always great with us kids when we came in for a slice. He made us feel welcome and always had a smile and a joke for us, along with all that great pizza. He was a wonderful guy and will be missed. His life touched many others. The memories will always be there.

I have fond memories of Larry from my days of hanging out at King Pizza. My friends and I would eat pizza, play the jukebox, and watch the world go by on Warburton.

I met Larry in the early 80's when he was dating Mary. At the time, I was dating Mary's brother.
I recall many happy times spent within the Calvi/Figura families: Larry & Mary's wedding where Mary, (with guitar) sang in the most angelic voice to her new husband a most touching rendition of John Denver's "Follow me" (?) as Larry beamed with pride & adoration.
I recall fun-loving times at the pizzeria, one in particular being the private family/friends party for the store's newest location.
I remember Larry relating, in light-hearted, humorous detail, Mary's episode with the birth of their second son. Mary's recollection of how much "fun" it was vastly differed from Larry's.
There was the memorable Calvi family Easter dinner, to which the Calvi's so graciously included me. I think that the number of courses (6 or 7?) were actually equivalent to the hours spent at the dining room table! The food, as well as the company, was exquisite & one of "the most authentic" Italian dinners I have attended.
Most of all, I recall Larry's exhuberant smile, his quick unabashed humor, and his ability to make anyone feel at ease.
With his ear to ear grin, Larry was the kind of person who (just by looking at him) inspired you to have a brighter day!
May God now be smiling upon Larry....
With heartfelt sympathy to Mary & family -

I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Larry. I will always remember his sharp humor, his wonderful family, the Friday Eggplant Parmesan wedges, his Lotus, making pizza boxes for a cup of Italian ice and much much more. Back in the day, King Pizza was a hub of activity that brought everyone together in Hastings. It was when Hastings was a neighborhood. Without him and King Pizza, I would have missed an important part of my life that I will always cherish. I can still hear him saying... "I'm here to help you - and take your money too." :)

Thanks Uncle Larry

To the Calvi Family, Please accept my condolences on your loss. Larry was a treasure of Hastings, one who can never be replaced. He didn't call me "Carol", he called me "English" because of my British parents, so I always felt special! I spent more hours in that pizza shop than I care to admit, all of them having a blast with Larry, eating the best pizza ever. May he rest in eternal peace.

To the Calvi family - May the Good Lord send you peace in this difficult time. Larry will always be remembered fondly by the friends he made. I will especially remember his letting me come in out of the weather on rainy days when I was on "Post 1" for the Hastings PD. Even gave me a break on the price of the slice! Rest easy, brother.

I have so many great memories of Larry at King Pizza. How he always remembered our family liked our crust well done, and eggplant was only on Fridays, and how all the girls were called Carol. Halloween nights after trick or treating all over town, we always finished up at King Pizza. Larry, we will all miss you. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathy to the Calvi Family. I went to PS#3 and Hawthorne Jr. High with Lorenzo. I remember his Father's pizza place on South Broadway. Never saw him after we went to different High Schools but talk with other Yonkers kids about the pizza parlor. So sorry to hear of his passing. He was a great kid in school and from what I am reading about him in later life, he was just as great then.
Deepest Sympathy,

To the Calvi family, my heart felt sympathy to all of you. As a child growing up in Hastings we all thought of Larry as the King of Pizza. His ability of making you feel at home, cared for and remembered made him one of a kind. He was friends with my Mother while a member of the Yonkers motorcycle club. He knew my Aunts my brothers and sisters and treated us like we were a part of his family. When I had children of my own he welcomed them right into the fold. He shared himself with all of the people he came into contact with. His kind heart will always be with those of us that had the privilege of knowing him. My condolences and prayers are with all of you. May Larry rest peacefully with God for eternity.

Dear Mary:

It is with the greatest sadness that I read of Uncle Larry's passing. King's was a second home to me, in both locations, between the age of 10 and when I moved from Hastings at 29. I live in Colorado and am forced to make my own pizza if I want a decent Pizza and I credit Uncle Larry each time one of my friends or neighbors ask where I learned to make Pizza. A picture of the original store on the corner, taken from the VFW lawn actually hangs in my law office in Fort Collins, Colorado. I will neer forget the dazzling speed with which he could add up a bill and his slogan "Uncle Larry, the children's friend".

Please accept my condolences and my deepest sympathies.

Larry will always be a part of my childhood memories. I was one of those teens that spent hours at King Pizza. I always thought Larry thought us teens were a pain in the butt, but you could tell by the look on his face he was happy to see us and would joke around and we all would laugh. My prayers are with you all. Liane E. Pisani-Van Aken
