Marilyn Ashfield

October 10, 1939 - October 9, 2015. Marilyn Ashfield, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Rhinebeck, New York on October 9, 2015. Born in Honolulu, Hawaii on October 10, 1939, Marilyn resided in Rockville Center, NY before moving to Boston Corners, NY. In 2006, Marilyn made Rhinebeck, NY her home. Marilyn was crowned homecoming queen in high school and went on to be successful as both a flight stewardess and antique dealer. Marilyn's sparkle, commitment to service, and joyous smile accompanied her wherever she went. She was a long-time volunteer at the Northern Dutchess Hospital Thrift Store. The "cookie lady" to many, her homemade cake bites were a favorite at Northern Dutchess Hospital bake sales.

As an active member of her community, Marilyn frequently donated stuffed animals along with her time to the John Flowers Family Partnership to provide comfort and joy to Dutchess County residents. Ever an environmental advocate, Marilyn was part of the Taconic Valley Preservation Alliance (TVPA) which worked over ten years to successfully halt gravel mining in the Harlem Valley. Marilyn will forever hold a special place in the hearts of her Monday Night ladies, and her experience, strength, and hope will continue to inspire and guide the lives of many.

A memorial service will be held on November 1, 2015 from 3 pm - 5 pm at the Church of the Messiah, 6436 Montgomery Street, Rhinebeck, NY 12572. Donations may be made in Marilyn's name to The Stepping Stones Foundation — The Historic Home of Bill Wilson (co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous) and Lois Wilson (co-founder of the Al-Anon Family Groups) at 62 Oak Road, Katonah, NY 10536 or to the Northern Dutchess Hospital Auxiliary at 6511 Springbrook Avenue, Rhinebeck, NY 12572. Marilyn wanted to be placed next to her husband Jack at the Punch Bowl Crater Cemetery in Honolulu, Hawaii. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

Marilyn was a great friend to my family. I have many great memories of Checkerboard Corner, Uncle Harold's farm, Chicken barbeques, making pickles, and many more. So sorry to hear of Marilyn's passing. She was a lovely lady with a big heart. She supported the residents of Thompson House at our bake sales--with some of the best treats one could imagine. My condolences to Marilyn's family and friends.
