Mildred "Midge" C. Skillman

New Paltz - Mildred (Midge) C. Skillman, 90, of New Paltz, NY,went home to the Lord and was reunited with loved ones that went before her when she passed peacefully on Wednesday, September 21, 2016 at Woodland Pond at New Paltz, with her loving family by her side.

Born on June 15, 1926, in Windber, PA, she was the daughter of the late Amadeo and the late Joanna Mandic Manti. She married Andrew J. Skillman on August 28, 1949 at Visitation Of The Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn, NY. Mr. Skillman passed away on December 22, 1985.

Midge was a devout Catholic, and as the family matriarch was a pillar of strength. To her children she was loving and supportive; a role model for dealing with life's adversities. To her grandchildren and great grandchildren she was Nannie; a constant guiding presence in their lives who loved them fiercely and played games with them with the enthusiasm of a child. To her friends and fellow parishioners she was true and faithful. She was always praying for someone in greater need than herself.

She was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, New Paltz, and was a member of Secular Franciscans - Franciscan Friars Third Order.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Joan & Michael Hans of Saugerties, NY; three sons and daughters-in-law, John & Karen Skillman of Gardiner, NY, Rick & Debbie Skillman of Manassas, VA, and Mark & Melissa Skillman of Stone Ridge, NY; a sister: Mary Morello (aged 95) of Cary, NC; grandson, Matthew & wife Samantha Skillman of Poughkeepsie, NY; granddaughter, Kathleen & husband Ryan Wobby of Colchester, VT; granddaughter, Trisha & husband Kalani Matthews of Chantilly, VA; grandson, Michael Hans of Glendale, CA; granddaughter, Jenna Hans of Saugerties, NY; grandson, Mason Robert Skillman of Stone Ridge, NY; great grandsons, Jackson Phillip Skillman of Poughkeepsie, NY; Eddie Kaukaopua Matthews of Chantilly, VA. In addition to her husband, Andrew, she was predeceased by two sons, Michael (1967) and Robert (2011).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 24, at 10:00 am, at St. Joseph's Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, NY 12561. Interment will follow at St. Charles Cemetery, Gardiner, NY. Relatives and friends may call on Friday, September 23, 2016, from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY.
