Pamela Howe Obituary

Pamela Katherine Howe

Pamela Katherine Howe left this earthly realm on January 30, 2021 with the same grace and gentleness with which she lived her life. She took leave with a full and grateful heart for the immeasurable opportunities and blessings she experienced throughout her 60 years.

Pam was born and raised in Rhinebeck, New York, the daughter of Clarence Kennedy Howe and Margaret Mary O'Hare. She received her undergraduate degree and graduate degree respectively from Ithaca College and Springfield College.

Her love of athletics brought her to Greensboro in the mid eighties when she accepted the position of Head Coach for the Women's Soccer and Lacrosse teams at Guilford College. Her later interest in technology, and teaching and learning led her to the academic community at UNCG where she became an Educational Technology Consultant in the School of Health and Human Sciences. Her career spanned over 20 years at the university.

It's challenging summing up Pam: she was so much to so many. She was a loving partner to Ann May. She was a devoted daughter, bonding with her father, Bud, on the golf course, and with her mother, Peggy, enjoying hour long telephone conversations filled with laughter and tenderness. Pam's enjoyment of Ann's children and her nieces and nephews gave her sheer delight. Her curiosity about each of their lives, along with her ability to connect, and her contagious sense of humor made her loved by all. Pam treasured her seven brothers and sisters and was a committed and loyal friend.

Pam loved home life. Food was essential, wine imperative, and good company a must. She was happiest taking a walk with Ann alongside their dogs, Tater and Toby, observing the solace of the woods and the wild signs of nature. Life was rich, an ever-present offering for the taking, and Pam was mindful of the daily presentations.

Pam's entire family would like to express its deep gratitude to Dr. Khan for her compassionate care and love as a doctor, mentor, friend, and finally as a sister, and to Mary and Vanessa, her oncology nurses, whose affection and outrageous humor will never be forgotten.

Due to the current pandemic, a celebration of her life will be planned later in the year. Until then, may we remember Pam's generous smile that crinkled her eyes and calmed our souls.

Memorial contributions may be made to BackPack Beginnings, 1852 Banking Street #9024, Greensboro, NC 27408.

As a colleague I miss chatting with you about how to approach some topic, often last minute. Always giving generously your time and thought. As a friend, I miss chatting about kids and life. I miss your insight, your take on on the world. A warm kind person a few doors down from mine. I will miss you.

Pam was the newest addition to our little country neighborhood. I remember her mother bringing me into the house to see this precious baby who subsequently, grew to be a lovely, blue eyed, freckled, fun loving little girl.
Brian, Bruce and Families, I send you all my deepest sympathy.

I was fortunate to work with Pam at Guilford College as her assistant lacrosse coach. She had a true love of the game and a great competitive spirit. She was well liked and respected by her players and opposing coaches. She expected hard work, but she was also fun loving and easy going. Although our paths took us in different directions I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to get to know her and to work with her. Thoughts and prayers go out to her family, partner and friends at this difficult time.

Pam was a special person. She helped me develop my first online course several years ago, which was no small feat. More importantly, she was always happy to see me even when I came to her in a panic, always pleasant, patient, and she always had time. We have suffered a great loss with her passing.

Pam was a very special person. I loved working with her and Jane H. - the two of them together were such a dynamic duo that you couldn't help but laugh and learn. As the other Pam in HHS, we sometimes would get each others emails - nothing sensitive of course, but it was always a good reason to send an email and catch up. I will cherish the fond memories. Sending hugs and prayers.

Pam was my lacrosse coach at Guilford College for a year. I appreciated her kindness, support and encouragement to all of us on the field. She led our team gracefully yet determinedly through competition, all the while instilling a strong sense of sportsmanship in all of us. I am grateful for her influence and I send my heartfelt sympathies to her family.

I will miss Pam dearly. She always made me laugh. She was so young and full of life as I remember her now. I remember the day I looked up from my office and she was there in the doorway. She said, "you always have chocolate and I need chocolate today". I will gladly have some trees planted in her memory.
