Patricia Evask Obituary

Patricia Bruno Evask

Pougkeepsie - Patricia Bruno Evask died on July 29, 2018 at the age of 71 of Ovarian Cancer.

Born in Yonkers, New York, October 2, 1946, she was the daughter of the late Alfred T. Bruno and Joann Merritt Bruno, Poughkeepsie, New York.

Patty attended local schools, and Our Lady of Lourdes High School. She was employed by New York Telephone Company, Marshall & Sterling Insurance Agency, and Dutchess County District Attorney's Office until her retirement in 2003.

Patty's favorite things to do in life were her crafts, including crochet, painting bird houses, and many other projects too numerous to mention. She loved to swim, decorate, was an avid reader and enjoyed music immensely.

On June 29, 1985, Patty married the love of her life, her devoted husband Bill of Brooklyn, NY. He survives at home. They spent 38 extremely happy years together, both dating and married. They spent every September together on Cape Cod and frequently travelled to Florida for spring vacations.

Patty is survived by her husband Bill, at home. She is also survived by her loving and supportive sister, Connie Sherban, who was always and daily by her side throughout her ordeal. Other survivors include her brother Al (Jeannie) of Staatsburg, her sister, Teresa Germano and family of Germantown, her nephew Jeff Sherban of Poughkeepsie, and her sister-and-brother-in-law, Connie and Bill Weiss of Long Island, New York, her step-daughters, Elaine of Floral Park, Long Island, and Melissa of Eureka, California. She was predeceased by her much loved and missed kitties, KeeKo and Vanilla

Patty wishes to thank her faithful, loving and life-long friends including but not limited to Mary McFarlane, Patty Eblen, Kathy Glick, Pat Fox, Chris Vallo, Jean Howard, Brenda Baratta Smith, Christine Baratta Soricelli, and many more too numerous to mention. She also thanks her kind and caring chemo nurses (and friends) Darlene Geysen Ottaviano and Paula LaBarge and all the staff of Women's Cancer Care Center but most of all, Dr. Kerriann Gray for her never-waivering interest in abilities and kindness to Patty on her long journey.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hudson Valley Hospice Care at 374 Violet Avenue, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601.

A Memorial gathering for family and friends will take place on Wednesday August 8th from 4-6pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill St. Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Wheelchair accessible entrance located in the rear of funeral home on Vassar St.

We shared so many fun times together - shopping, dining, visiting Cape Cod, touring the mansions, the holidays, our Saturday gab sessions- it's hard to believe she's gone. I'm so glad I got to say goodbye in person. I'll miss her. Prayers and healing thoughts to Bill, the love of her life, and to the rest of her family. She loved you and looked forward to the group celebrations with all of you. May her memory always be close to your hearts.

Patty was one in a million. I will always treasure our visits together whenever we were in NY or talking on the phone. Those phone visits were like we were teenagers again with the added wisdom of so many years. She will be forever missed by many and I am so grateful for knowing her and having her in my life.
Our deepest sympathy to Billy and Connie and her family.

Patty was once part of a group back in the 60's that began our job as telephone operators...fun time great friends...then as years passed most went onto other jobs, I stayed! After 48 years we reconnected last year and I was thrilled to have her back in my life...we laughed...reminisced...and would meet for lunch ...I loved those times, though they were few with her illness....she was strong willed, and we talked a lot on the phone...making plans for this summer, but time became short...I was able to visit and say I'll see you again one day and we'll have that Lobster Roll.....prayers and love to Billy and the family at this time.

Patty was a wonderful friend to my mom, Lois, and her husband, Jeff. For all their years as neighbors and friends she would light up their lives with her cheerful visits, her flair for style and ready smile. When my mom was sick, even though Patty was struggling herself, she would offer encouragement and understanding, faith and hope, not only to my mother, but also to me and my husband, Nick, and to Jeff when we'd see one another or talk on the phone. She shared with me what it meant to be my mother's friend and she was one of the first to share my grief with compassionate words when my mom passed. I will always treasure Patty's words, kindness and great courage. My heart goes out to her devoted husband, Bill. I hope that precious memories of many good times together and the love they shared will help to soothe the sorrow of such a great loss. I will carry gratitude in my heart always for having known Patty and for her precious gift of friendship.
