"Bud" Gasking Jr.

Poughkeepsie - Russell G. " Bud " Gasking Jr. entered into rest on February 27, 2017 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center He was 87 years old.

Born December 8, 1929 in Newburgh, NY he was the son of the late Agnes M. Oakley and Russell G. Gasking Sr.

He grew up in Newburgh and graduated from Newburgh Free Academy. Upon graduation he enlisted uin the Army and served in what is now "Special Forces". After discharge from the Army he went to Bryant College (now Bryant University) and graduated with a degree in Accounting and Finance. He Later he completed his Masters Degree from Wharton School of Finance (University of Pennsylvania) After completing thirty six years of service with IBM Corp. he retired early in 1987 as an Advisory Financial Analyst.

Bud was a life member at Grace United Methodist Church in Newburgh where he attended and served every week. He was a 36 year active member with the Arlington Fire District having served as a District Fire Commissioner, he was an active Life Member with the Red Oaks Mill Fire Company of the Arlington Fire District, he served as a company President and Director as well as a 33 years as Fire Police Lt. Bud was also a member of many other organizations which include the Exempts Firemens Association in Poughkeepsie, Life Member of the Dutchess County Fire Police Association, Life Member of the Dutchess County Fire Advisory Board, over 20 years of service with the Putnam Northern Westchester City Fire Police Association, a past member of the Fraternal Order of Police Chapter 188, the FASNY-Fire Association State of New York, a Life Member of the Hudson Valley Fire Police Association and the Poughkeepsie ELKs BPOE #275.

He is survived by his daughter Mary Potvin of Wappingers Falls, daughter Joanne VanNorstrand and son in-law Jonathan of Hyde Park, son David Gasking of New Windsor, stepson Ralph Machorro and his grandchildren Brittany and Adam. Bud is also survived by his sister Agnes Koerber of Newburgh, sister Shirley Rightmeyer of Newburgh, nephew Glenn Rightmeyer, nephew Tim and wife Tricia Ingram and their children Kelly and Devon and many other relatives and friends to numerous to mention, but he loved them all.

Bud was predeceased by his son Russell Grant Gasking III in 2008 and by his daughter Linda Sue in 2010.

Calling hours will be held Friday March 3, 2017 from 4pm to 8pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home 371 Hooker Ave. Poughkeepsie, New York 12603. A Memorial Service and a Firematic Service with Military Honors will start at 7pm during the calling hours. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at the Woodlawn Cemetery Route 94 New Windsor, NY.
