Sarah Lyons Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Sarah Lyons, 71 years old, a resident of Poughkeepsie, NY gained her wings to spend eternal life with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, March 31, 2021 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center.
Sarah was born on April 10, 1949 in Whittakers, North Carolina, Edgecomb County to Vera Harvey and Ellis Mayo. She had the pleasure of being raised by her late stepfather Luther Harvey.
Mrs. Lyons received her education in the Edgecomb County School System. Her employment history spanned over many years. She worked for Western Publishing Company for more than 15 years. She then went to work for IBM for 25 years, from where she retired in 2011.
Sarah was joined in matrimony to Bennie Lyons on September 28, 1968. They remained married for 45 years.
Sarah, also known as "Snookie" will always be remembered for her loving, caring and lively spirit and will be especially missed by her cousins, nieces and nephews. She instilled in them to always be the best at what they do and do it with pride."If you ain't gonna do it right, don't do it at all! She would say to everyone "I love you so good!"
Left to cherish her fond memories are her one and only son, Bruce Lyons of Poughkeepsie, NY.; her loving mother, Vera Harvey of Poughkeepsie, NY; her grandson, Kyrone Parker of Greensboro, NC and granddaughter, Corinthia Dillard of Durham, NC; four great-grandchildren, TiAsia, DaNasia and KyHeir Parker and Jah'siah Davis; one uncle, Moses Pittman; two sisters-in-law, Alice Nkrumah-Adjei and Lucille Ransom; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Lyons; three special cousins, Lucille Petteway, Carolease Dancey, and Regina Petteway-Williams and two very best friends, Jacqueline Parker and Delores Walker.
She was predeceased by her husband, Bennie Lyons; father, Ellis Mayo; stepfather, Luther Harvey and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Mrs. Lyons will have a Walkthrough 9-11 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2021 at Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel, 43 Fairview Ave., New Windsor, NY. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. at the chapel. (Face Mask and Social Distancing REQUIRED). Entombment at the Community Mausoleum at Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY. Sarah was the most kind hearted person I ever met, the love she spread to her whole entire family and friends is un forgettable, Always had a smile that would light up a room and brighten ur day,that laugh was contagious!
