Rhinebeck- It is with great sadness and heartache to announce the sudden death of Shawn S. McMichael of Rhinebeck, NY. Shawn, only 51 years old, died suddenly at Northern Dutchess Hospital with his mother Judy McMichael and wife Francine Pietromonaco McMichael.

Shawn was born January 26, 1965 in Poughkeepsie and raised in Rhinebeck; he graduated from Rhinebeck High School in 1983 and Delhi University in 1987. He returned to Rhinebeck to start his own business, Airtek Mechanical. Shawn was a successful entrepreneur and will be missed dearly by all of his friends and associates.

Shawn met the love of his life 8 years ago, they married and brought their families together to create their beautiful life.

Shawn believed strongly in heaven, and believed when his time came he would once again be reunited with his father, Herbert N. McMichael, who passed away 19 years ago; this was his hope.

All who knew Shawn will remember his great smile, his loud presence, his dry sense of humor and his beautiful sensitive kind heartedness. Shawn was taken from us much too soon and will be so very missed.

Shawn leaves behind his mother Judy (Piplow) McMichael, wife Francine McMichael, brother Steven, son Blake, daughter Grace, step-son Scott Oatkin, all of his in-laws, his dear friend and co-worker Scott Cameron, many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.

Calling hours are Sunday, 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market ST., Rhinebeck. Funeral Services are Monday, 11 AM, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 371 Wurtemburg Rd., Rhinebeck. Interment will follow at the Wurtemburg Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul' Lutheran Church or the Northern Dutchess Hospital Foundation, 6531 Springbrook Avenue

So sad to hear of the loss of Shawn. We were the neighbors with the similar names and I looked up to him for being cool. He was quiet but loud with his vehicles and later, usually had that smile, so terrific picture of him. My sympathy to his wife, children, Judy, and Steve.

Shawn was my classmate for many years at RHS, we weren't best friends, but we knew one another, how could we not, it was a small school district.

Always remembered that Shawn was a good soul, smiled a lot, and have fond memories of the times that we interacted, talked, and spent time at school.

Dear Family and Friends of Shawn: What I will most miss about Shawn is his positive, "glass half full" nature and smiling face. Shawn was in the middle of installing air conditioning in my home when his son was born. I'll remember him everytime the A/C kicks in. May he rest in peace and know how much his smiling face is missed.
