Stanley Johnson Obituary
Poughkeepsie - Stanley Johnson, 52, a lifelong resident of Poughkeepsie, NY, was called home by his Lord and Savior Friday afternoon, August 24, 2012 suddenly after a struggle with a terminal illness. He was educated in the Poughkeepsie city school district and Ulster Community College. Stan went on to be employed with H.P.T.Inc., the Culinary Institute, and Vassar Brothers Hospital for many years.
"June Bug" as many knew him by, was an active member of Bethel Church of God in Christ and was also practicing and studying to become a deacon. He was known to make one smile or laugh with his comedic ways and witty sense of humor. In his free time, Stan developed a passion for the game of golf, where he earned yet another nickname "Tiger". He also helped out by coaching pop warner football.
Stanley leaves behind a loving mother, Mrs. Helen Cain(Poughkeepsie); a loving and devoted companion of 14 years, Ms. Antoinette "Lavern" Wiggins(Poughkeepsie); 6 children, Jamel Johnson and Camoia Johnson,(FL), Quinesha Johnson(Schenectady), Nisa Johnson(NC), Levert and Lakara Johnson(Poughkeepsie); 14 grandchildren; 4 brothers, Lynwood Johnson, and his spouse Lauree(Poughkeepsie), Wilbur Johnson(VA), Richard Bevier, and his spouse, Virginia(Wappingers Falls), Sequamn Storts, and his spouse, Ashanti(Hyde Park); 2 sisters, Victoria Storts(Syracuse), Martha Heirs, and her spouse, Clarence(Poughkeepsie); a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and many, many friends.
He was predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Daisy Mae Gerard, his paternal grandfather, Henry Johnson, his father, David Johnson, a sister, Hattie Mae Johnson, and a brother, David Green Sr.
Visitation is Thursday, August 30, 2012, from 5-7 PM at the Bethel Church of God in Christ, 91 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. A funeral service to follow at 7 PM with Pastor Dwight Hunt officiating. Interment will be Friday, August 31, 2012 in Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Joseph J. Many years ago in the late 1960's I played a lot of baseball down at Riverview (Stitzel) Field in Poughkeepsie. A cute little kid named June Bug Johnson would usually come by before our games to chat and horse around with us. We got to know him pretty well and looked forward to seeing him whenever we had a game at Riverview. He was so full of life -- a really nice kid who could always make us laugh. I am so saddened to learn of his passing. But I know that he has made Heaven a happier place with his presence. Rest in peace, June Bug.
