Dover Plains, NY - Thomas W. Muir, III, 58, a longtime resident of Dover Plains, NY, died on Tuesday March 4, 2014 at his home in Dover Plains, NY. Mr. Muir was the corporate director of the Hebrew Hospital Home in Valhalla, NY.

Born on December 13, 1955 in White Plains, NY, he is the son of Thomas W. Muir, Jr. and Eleanor (Mueller) Muir of Holmes, NY. Mr. Muir graduated from Yorktown High School and later attended Mercy College. One July 15, 1989 in Goshen, NY he married Cynthia Herko who survives at home. Mr. Muir was a longtime member of the Southern Dutchess and Putnam Sportsman Association in Wappinger Falls, NY.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Muir is survived by two step-children, Glenn Allen Cargain and his wife, Christine, of Dover Plains, NY and Cheryl Ann Smith of Carmel, NY; two sisters, Kathleen Barry of Patterson, NY and Carol Lynn Chamberlain of Wingdale, NY and six step-grandchildren, Kristopher, Joseph, and Ryan Smith, Kevin and Tyler Cargain and Alyson Ling. He is also survived by three great step-grandchildren, Natalie, Briana, and Joseph Smith, Jr. Mr. Muir was predeceased by a step-granddaughter, Brittany Cargain and a nephew Michael Barry.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at the Hufcut Funeral Home, 3159 Route 22, Dover Plains, NY. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Friday, March 7, 2014 at the funeral home with Fr. Kent Wilson officiating.
