Timothy Mulvey Obituary

Timothy Patrick Mulvey

NEW MILFORD, CT - Timothy Patrick Mulvey (Tim), 55, a New Milford resident died April 29, 2014 after an eight year courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born February 10, 1959 in Poughkeepsie, NY to Helen and Richard Mulvey. Tim was a graduate of Poughkeepsie High School where he earned the distinction of being a four sport varsity player (swimming, crew, football and track). Tim was recognized with the Ross Memorial Award for his tenacity and sports achievements. Tim graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Financial Accounting from Pace University and served as the Vice President of his senior class. It was at Pace that he met Maureen, his future wife.

Tim and Maureen were happily married for 29 years. Tim was devoted to his wife and three sons, his parents, sisters and brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. Together Tim and Maureen shared much love and joy. His optimism, enthusiasm, caring, sense of humor, generosity and smile won the hearts of all those who loved him dearly and even those he first met. His diligence, faith and humility enabled him to fiercely but quietly battle his disease without ever letting it define him. Tim took tremendous pride in his cherished three sons and relished any and all of their activities.

Tim began his career at Nestle and worked in various financial and managerial roles at IBM for over 25 years. Tim's career included a three year international assignment in Paris, France. Tim's contagious and endearing enthusiasm will be greatly missed. His gentle strength and many acts of kindness were endearing to the lives he touched. His dignity, faith and love out shined his illness and prolonged his life.

In addition to his beloved wife and three sons, Matthew, Brian and Kevin, other survivors include his parents Helen and Richard Mulvey of Catskill, NY and, Brothers Brian (and his children Quinn and Nora), Peter (spouse Kris), Sisters Mary Jo Sabia (spouse Dr. John and their children Jessica, Jason, John Paul, Laura), Cathy Washburn (spouse Bruce, their children Keith and Nicholas). He was also the beloved son-in-law, brother-in-law and Uncle of the Lappin Family. Calling hours are 2:00-5:00pm, Sunday May 4 at Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge St., New Milford, CT. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:00am at St. Francis Xavier Church in New Milford, CT on Monday, May 5. Contributions for the Timothy Mulvey Memorial Scholarship Fund may be sent to Fairfield County Bank, PO Box 2050, Ridgefield, CT 06877, Attn: Monnie Newman.

To the Wonderful Mulvey and Lappin Families – You have lost one of the cornerstones of your tremendous extended family and the rest of us have lost a dear, close friend.

For me, Timmy is most remembered as always willing to lend a helping hand. And that extended hand was framed by the biggest, most genuine smile any of us have ever seen. No one can duplicate that smile. But I have tried to raise my children to be as selfless as he was.

Timmy was one of the greatest guys I knew and I really looked up to him. He always made everyone around him do great. His smile will always stay in my memory because it was always there even if we were winning by a bunch or getting our butts kicked.
He would never let us give up.
There are not to many people like Tim out there.

May 1, 2014

Dear Mulvey Family
I was so saddened to read today of Tim's death. My twin brother John and I had a lot of very nice memories growing up in the same area of Poughkeepsie. Krieger school back then was where all the boys went for sports when we weren't playing little league ,or school sports. Tim and his brother would come by on occasion with their cousin Mike Ryan, who practically lived at Krieger, like alot of us. I always felt that all who grew up in that area of Poughkeepsie were very fortunate. It was fun and all spent many years of our teenage years there.
I am sending my condolences along with my brother John, who lives in Colorado.
We are very sorry for your loss of a very special person.

Sincerely
John and Jim Morgan
