Vincent Coppola Obituary

Vincent Coppola

HIGHLAND - Vincent Coppola, 81, died at Vassar Brothers Hospital after a long hard battle with pancreatic cancer on June 10.

Born and raised in Monte di Procida, a small province of Naples Italy. With strong convictions and a desire to provide for his family, he left his homeland in 1958 to join his two brothers in the Hudson Valley.

The uniting of the Coppola Brothers began the legacy of Coppola Restaurant. In 1977 he came to Highland, NY and opened Coppola's Restaurant on Main Street and moved that location to the present Coppola's La Fantasia Ristorante on Route 9W in Highland in 1986.

On November 1, 1959 he married Raffaela Lina Mazzella in St. Mary's Church in Marlboro.

Vincent leaves his wife, Raffaela Lina (Mazzella) Coppola, after 52 years of marriage, his son Nicola V. Coppola (Highland), his daughters Maria Teresa Coppola Scotto with her husband, Nick Scotto and 4 daughters, Alessandra, Raffaela, Gabriela and Francesca (Houston, TX) and Concetta Coppola Raymond with her husband, Douglas Raymond and 3 children Christopher, Jacqueline and Arianna (Austin, TX), his brother Antonio Coppola (Hyde Park) his three sisters, Angelina Filagrossi, Maria Fascelli, Gilda Russo (all from Naples, Italy), and countless nieces and nephews.

Vincent has joined the Heavenly Father and his parents Nicola and Teresa Colandrea Coppola (Naples, Italy) and his younger brother, Joseph Coppola (Hyde Park).

Vincent's passions in life include his family, cooking, and preserving his Italian traditions. He was happiest when he was able to share his delicacies with his loved ones, friends and anyone he encountered in his day to day life. Vincent followed his heart with generosity and humility and left his mark on everyone he met.

Vincent is adored and loved by his family. His strength, guidance and love will be greatly missed. Vincent was a devout Catholic and belonged to Saint Augustine Parish in Highland, NY.

Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 12th from 2-7 PM at The Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 218 Mill Street, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601. Wheelchair entrance is located at the rear of the funeral home on Vassar Street.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Monday, June 13th at 11:30 am at St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, Highland with burial to follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, Poughkeepsie, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 45 Reade Place, Poughkeepsie, NY 12601 or St. Augustine's Church, 55 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528 in memory of Vincent.

I am very sorry to hear this sad news. When I was in Jr. High School I worked at the restaurant then located on Main Street in Poughkeesie. Vincenzo, Giuseppe and Antonio always treated me like family. I especially remember the patience of Vincenzo in teaching me various techniques of the restaurant AND no matter how trecherous the weather he would never allow me to walk home. He would always insist to drive me home. I learned patience, respect and appreciation of kindness from Vincenzo. Thank you Vincenzo...You have had a positive impact in my life and I will be forever grateful.
