Virginia Choate Obituary

Virginia Marie

(Johnson) Choate

FORT EDWARD - Virginia Marie (Johnson) Choate, 81, a resident of Fort Hudson Health Facility and formerly of Fishkill, NY, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2012.

Born August 8, 1930 in Worcester, MA, she was the daughter of the late George H. Johnson and Mabel Victoria (Nelson) Johnson. She was raised in Holden, MA. Virginia was very proud of her Swedish heritage, and was known for her kind and caring nature toward others. After graduating from Holden High School, Class of 1948, she graduated from Salter's Secretarial School in 1949, with a medical secretarial degree. Prior to her marriage, she worked for doctors in Worcester and Holden. Virginia was an accomplished classical pianist and violinist, and music brought her great joy throughout her life.

On July 11, 1953 Virginia married Bruce Pullman Choate, her loving husband of 52 years, moving to Fishkill in 1957 where they raised four children. He predeceased her in 2005. She is also predeceased by her infant sister, Elaine Mae Johnson.

Virginia was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoyed caring for her home and family. She was a traditional homemaker taking great pride in her baking, sewing, and gardening. Virginia shared her love of music by teaching piano. She was dedicated to providing a nurturing home life to her children and grandchildren. She supported her family's activities through the years, enjoying skiing, boating, and island camping on Lake George. She and Bruce spent many happy family vacations at their summer cottage on Lake George, NY.

Virginia is survived by her four children, Elaine Musits (Bela) of Queensbury, NY; their sons, Jason Musits (Cara) of Saratoga Springs, NY, and Dr. Andrew Musits of Albany, NY; Julie Prendeville (Mark), their children Emma and Hanna of Diamond Point, NY; Bruce G. Choate and wife Peggy (Ballweg), their children Erica and Tyler of Milton, NY; and Peter J. Choate and wife Antoinette (Mamazza), their children Devon and Kyle of Murrieta, CA.

Her family is grateful to the staff of Fort Hudson Health Center for the kind and compassionate care given to Virginia. She cherished the friendships she made among staff and residents while there.

A memorial in Fishkill, NY is planned for family and friends in the near future. To honor Virginia's wishes, interment will be private.

Donations may be made in memory of Virginia Choate to the Fort Hudson Foundation, Fort Hudson Health Facility, 319 Broadway, Fort Edward, NY 12828.
