Wayne Moreau Obituary

Dr. Wayne Martin Moreau

Gouldsboro - Dr. Wayne Martin Moreau, 76, of Gouldsboro PA, passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2018 surrounded by his family after a short but courageous fight with sarcoma. Wayne is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dr. Nancy (Harvilchuck) Moreau, son David Moreau and his wife Zory of Syracuse, NY, daughter Dr. Deborah Dihel and her husband Jeff of Richland, WA, grandchildren Logan and Lauren Dihel, and Maria and Patrick Moreau. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Wendell S. Moreau, Jr. At the time of his death, Dr. Moreau was a retired IBMer and an online statistics professor at Northampton Community College in Tannersville PA.

Wayne was the younger son of the late Wendell S. and Sabina (Sluzar) Moreau. A lifelong learner, he was born in Chicopee, Massachusetts, and a graduate of Chicopee High School. He received his Bachelors in Chemistry from University of Massachusetts Amherst, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Northeastern University. He started working at IBM in Fishkill, New York State, where he met his wife, Nancy, on a blind date. They moved to Wappingers Falls NY where they bought a home and started a family. Dr. Moreau was a decorated inventor in the science of semi-conductors, held numerous patents and authored a reference book entitled "Semiconductor Lithography". He retired from IBM in 2002 but soon started teaching chemistry classes at Dutchess Community College, in Poughkeepsie, NY. He was also an avid tennis and softball player, and liked to reminiscence about his no-hitter for which the signed game ball was displayed in the dining room. He also enjoyed stock car racing, Boston Red Sox, and the New England Patriots.

Wayne retired to Gouldsboro PA in 2005 where he enjoyed evening fishing excursions on the lake, golfing, blueberry picking, shoveling snow, landscaping, chasing geese and staying busy working around the property. He made sure all visitors had the chance to hook a big fish on his Jitterbug, and always had a camera to document the catch. His very favorite thing was a back scratch.

Dr. Moreau, an advocate for the community, was Chairman of the Town Planning Commission, member of the Gouldsboro United Methodist Church and President of the Gouldsboro Historical Society. Gifted with a teaching spirit, he adopted the museum in the Gouldsboro train station, adding an ice house model and other pictures/videos to explain the history of the local area. He created activities for visiting families to explore the museum offerings. When he learned of his illness, he initiated the construction of the Moreau Family Pavilion, as a lasting legacy for happy gatherings for the community at the train station.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 7, 2018 in the Pavilion at Gouldsboro Train Station. Donations in his memory can be made to the Gouldsboro Historical Society, 543 Main Street, Gouldsboro, PA 18424. My name is Al Doty and I remember Wayne very well - he was , in my opinion ,a gentle giant , he being physically larger then me and spoke with a quiet voice , and was quite confident in his inner knowledge but never flaunted it . It's pleasing to me to "catch up" on the lives of those we knew way back then - but not under these circumstances... His Bio is most impressive and I'm sure he will be missed by his family and the many ,many others whos lives he touched... May God grant Serenity to all who know ,love and will miss him and may his soul rest in the eternal light, peace and glory of God forever..

Wayne positively influenced countless and leaves a legacy that most could only hope for. Wayne's generousity with his intellect, knowledge and wisdom in an industry that can be ruthless is a testament to who he was. I know that much of what I have been able to acheive professionally is a result of working with and learning from The Chief.

Nancy, David, Deborah & families,
Deepest sympathy on your loss, but remember how blessed you all are to have such a wonderful husband & father, who I'm sure has so positively shaped you all & grandchildren. My beliefs are that Wayne is safe with GOD and he will rest in peace. Thank you all for sharing him with me and so many others! At IBM he was a mentor to me & so many others; personally, he freely gave his time & skills chainsawing trees, building decks, gardens, etc at my house & was always there to give me great advice. We played softball (YES he pitched a PERFECT game!!), tennis & golf together. I've never met a person so talented in so many things, so willing to share of himself & talents, so positive, hardworking, but with a demeanor that always fostered growth & teamwork. I am so grateful that Wayne ("The Chief") & Nancy have been in my/our lives, he will be dearly missed, please feel free to ask if there's anything we can do to help in any way & I will do everything possible to attend the celebration of his life 7/7/18.

GOD bless & love to you all,

Tony & Jaymee Scaduto, & family

Wayne was a great colleague, a real gentleman and a good friend.

Because of his writing and exceptional clarity of thought, he was a mentor - even to people he never even met.

My sincere condolences to the family

We lost a great man. Wayne and I worked together at IBM for many years, and, with his guidance and mentoring I continue to achieve in my career. I never had an opportunity to say thanks to one of the brightest men I have ever met. He was generous with his knowledge and seemed to have a photographic memory. We
would wager on basketball games; a coffee, a couple bucks, because the Chief loved sports.
My career took me away from NY and my friend, though we did send Xmas cards ( thanks to Nancy) to one another yearly.
I worked and went after my chemistry degree and could count on a quiz, from time to time, from the Chief. Those quizzes really helped.
One great lesson I learned from the Chief was to strive whether you are recognized or not. Just do good work; thanks Chief. I will never forget all you have done for me.

I can never forget Wayne, a great friend and mentor at IBM and a wonderful neighbor in Lydia Drive. He is a rare combination of scientist and compassionate / caring person.

We, will never forget the legacy of Dr. Wayne Moreau. His generosity of time and spirit, as Jay Gould and The Wizard of Oz. Our Pavillion at the Train Station a lasting reminder. His patience, helping the Boy Scouts earn their badges, and the list goes on and on. Condolences to his wonderful wife who shared in the Gouldsboro train events and all of his family members who have lost a wonderful father and grandfather,
Reina (Glinda)
