William C. "Wild Bill" McAfee
Newburgh, NY - William Charles "Wild Bill" McAfee, of Newburgh, a lifelong resident of the area, entered into rest on Monday, February 13, 2012, at Elant at Newburgh, in Newburgh, NY. He was 79.
Son of the late William Albert and Josephine Abrahamson McAfee, he was born on March 12, 1932 in Newburgh, NY.
William owned and operated Will-Mac-Masonry, was a graduate of Newburgh Free Academy in 1950, a 55 year member of Christ Lutheran Church, a 4 year member of St. Mary's Church, a lifetime member of the Plattekill Fire Department, a 35 year member of the Plattekill Rod and Gun Club, a former Town Councilman, a 24 year Ulster County Legislator, a former Plattekill Building Inspector, and a member of the Plattekill Lions Club for 35 years. He also proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War.
"Dad was a pillar of our community. He never knew the word NO to anyone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing and watching sports with his grandchildren. He spent his retirement visiting his lifelong friends Buddy Kalisky, Richard Schaffer, and his sister-in-law Elizabeth Bradley. Not only did Dad build many foundations, he was the foundation to our family. We love you Dad, Rest in Peace."
He is survived by his wife JeAnne (Garzon) McAfee; sons, William McAfee, and his wife Judy, Michael McAfee, and his wife Holly; brothers, Robert Chapman and David McAfee; sister, Thelma Myers; grandchildren, Bryan McAfee, Patricia Small, Sean McAfee, Annie Wensman, and Heidi Decouer; great-grandchildren, Amelia McAfee, Fiona McAfee, and Steven Decouer; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by the love of his life, Shirley (Feldt) McAfee and step-parents, Alfred and Ann Chapman.
Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm on Thursday, February 16 at Brooks Funeral Home, 481 Gidney Ave., Newburgh.
A funeral service will be held at 9:30 am on Friday, February 17 at the funeral home, with Fr. William Scafidi officiating.
Burial will follow at Modena Cemetery, Modena.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in William's memory may be made to the Plattekill Fire Department, Firehouse Rd. Plattekill, NY 12568.
