Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bowers Funeral Home - Houlton from Jan. 26 to Jan. 27, 2026.
LITTLETON – Robina (aka Roberta, aka Betty) McLean McAfee went to be with her Lord and Savior on January 23, 2026. Born in
Houlton, ME, on March 11, 1935, to Therisa Folsom McLean (1/1/1902) and Earl John McLean (8/16/1899), Betty and her twin brother, Robert "Bobby," were abandoned at the hospital. They were the 11th and 12th babies in the family, and the 4th set of twins. They lived at the Aroostook Hospital for 3 ½ months before being placed into state aid in a state home (now called foster care). They lived in many foster homes until they were grown and on their own.
Betty married her one and only love, Dana Merle McAfee. They were married for 58 ½ years at the time of Dana's death. They bought a home in
Littleton, ME, where they raised their five children, whom they loved very much. One thing Betty wanted was to have a happy and loving home to raise her family in; with her husband and the Lord's help, she had one.
She leaves behind a son, Andrew Dana McAfee; a daughter, Roxie R. and her husband Chris Tarr; a son, Jody A. McAfee and wife Beth; and a daughter-in-law, Susan McAfee. She is also survived by her grandson, Brandon T. McAfee and Kirby sides; greatgrandchildren Lauren, Evan, Bradyn, Sophie, and Kinsley granddaughter, Amanda Sue McAfee and friend Jason Beaulieu; great-granddaughter, Gracie Sue (Dana) Klein; and Percy T. Taylor, Winona, and Elvira Beaulieu.
Further survivors include her granddaughter, Melinda "Min" Moran; greatgranddaughter, Olivia "Livvy" King; grandson, Steven Moran and fiancé Brittanie; great granddaughters Braelynn and Ella; grandson Nick Tarr and girlfriend Maria; granddaughter Kristen Bullard, husband Tim and family; grandson Matt Tarr; and grandson Brian Nason and his children. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Judy (Harold) Fitz; relatives David (Judy) McAfee and Rick (Karleen) Strout; and siblings Geraldine Case of Wisconsin, and Lucille Jean Spaulding of Winn, ME; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her mother, father, and husband, Dana, as well as two sons: Daniel Brent McAfee (wife Donna) and Thomas Allen McAfee. To have a child go before the parent is a hard thing. You boys are missed every day, but now we are together once again.
She was also predeceased by sisters Phyllis Nadine Wood, Annadine Steeves (twin to Geraldine), Hazel "Penny" Hamm (twin to Hazen), Rayworth Kelley, Deloras "Dorrie" McLean (twin to Lorie Stevens), and Joyce "Pat" Artgaleta; and brothers Hazen McLean and Robert McLean (her twin brother). She is also survived by many whoopie pie lovers.
Betty loved being involved in church. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Houlton. She taught Sunday School, worked in the nursery, taught Jr. Church, and worked in the kitchen. She was a member of American Baptist Women and served as a deaconess for 15 years. When Betty was able, she enjoyed working and doing things in the church.
Betty worked at the Chain Apparel Store after high school and at the Houlton shoe factory. She also helped Dana at the Ridge Runner Garage and worked in the potato fields as a harvester and in the potato house.
Her favorite hymns were Alan Jackson's "In the Garden," "God Will Take Care of You," and "Jesus Loves the Little Children." At a very early age, Betty learned to trust in the Lord and to know He was always there for her to lean on when she had no one else. Growing up, children were very important to Betty.
Friends may call from 1:00–2:00 PM on Friday, January 30th, at Bowers Funeral Home in Houlton, with a service to follow at 2:00 PM with Pastors Mark Lunn and Ray Gough officiating.
