William A. " Bill " Ricks

Poughkeepsie - William A. "Bill" Ricks, 86, of Poughkeepsie, NY died Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center. A 55 year local resident, Bill was born on January 17, 1925 in Oklahoma, CO to the late Samuel and Edna Casper Ricks. Bill served in the U.S. Army and loved to fish, including deep-sea, golf, play cards and was an avid Yankee fan. He married Mary Ann Alcock on November 7, 1958 and she survives at home. Bill was an engineer for IBM in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill for 38 years. He was a member of the Pirate Canoe Club and held the position of Commodore - Entertainment Chair. He was also a past president of the IBM Quarter Century Club. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Ronald and Shari Ricks of Charlotte, NC, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Dominick Nardis of Poughkeepsie, daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Nick DeStefano of Modena, NY, daughter and son-in-law Jean and Norm Pettyjohn of Richmond, VA, daughter Margaret Ricks of New Port Ritchie, FL, son and daughter-in-law William and Judy Ricks of Poughkeepsie and his daughter Lisa. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, his two brothers Jake Ricks of Denver and Everett Ricks of Pablo, CO, and his sister Lou Ruzanski. Bill was predeceased by a son Robert Kenneth Ricks and14 brothers and sisters. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 from 5:00-8:00pm at the Timothy P. Doyle Funeral Home, 371 Hooker Ave., Poughkeepsie, NY 12603. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 10:00am in the funeral home.
