William Sohan Obituary

William E. "Bill" Sohan III

Fishkill - William "Bill" Edward Sohan III, 65, a resident of Southern Dutchess since 1974, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9th, 2013 in his home.

Born in Brooklyn on February 20th, 1947, he was the son of William Edward, Jr. and Angelina Sohan. Following a tour in Vietnam from 1965 - 1967, Bill began an illustrious career as a commercial banker with Chase Manhattan Bank, Fishkill National Bank, and by the mid-eighties, became Vice President of Pawling Savings Bank in Fishkill.

In 1984, Bill was elected President of the Fishkill Rotary Club. Over the years, he was actively involved in the Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the Board of the Fishkill Rural Cemetery. In 2004, Bill was instrumental in the fundraising and dedication of the historic clock that stands in front of the Village of Fishkill Van Wyck Hall.

In 1991, Bill established Tutti Quantis Ristorante on Route 9 in Fishkill. After fire damage, the restaurant relocated to Main Street in Fishkill. Some will recall how he would come from behind the counter to sit and chat with his customers. They were all his friends; it was one big happy family. After temporarily retiring from the restaurant business in 2005, Bill opened up another restaurant in Cold Spring, Whistling Willies American Grill, in 2007. There, Bill can be credited with reviving the local live music scene.

Beyond his professional career, Bill enjoyed hunting, crossword puzzles, and the many years of car shows with his 1966 Corvette.

He is survived by many loved ones, including Linda Sohan and their three sons, William Edward Sohan IV & his wife Jill, Brian Sohan & his wife Allison, and Brendan Sohan & his fiancé Nicole Sgrulletta; grandchildren, Sydney, Will, Reagan and Hugh; Laura Morgan and her three children, Lauren Morgan & her fiancé Paul Rigano, Eric Morgan and Nicole Morgan; his sisters, Camille Lombardi & her husband Paul and Theresa Basile; also many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and other loving relatives & friends.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 12 and Sunday, January 13 at the McHoul Funeral Home of Fishkill, Inc., 1089 Main Street, Fishkill. A funeral service will begin at 6 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home, immediately following calling hours. The U.S. Army will conduct Military Honors.

Thank you to everyone that has reached out to our family over the last week or so. We couldn't make it through all of this without you. That's what friends are for, and you all have shown your beautiful, supportive true colors since Wednesday. Thank you all.

Dad - Thank you for showing me the way over my short 28 years with you. You will be forever missed by us, and the so many people who had their lives gracefully touched by you over the many years. I'm proud of you, always. You did great, but most of all - I love you, pal.

Although we have added a mere tribute of our own sadness and tribute to Bill, we needed now to share further: For seven years we have steadily been friends and patrons for Bill and Whistling Willies: Tonight, with heavy hearts, we returned and on the stoop of Whistling Willies was the tribute Zac had prepared for Bill. As so many have already shared and felt, the immense loss and grief of losing Bill was overwhelming as we approached the place Bill had always sat with the derby on his chair, now was illuminated with candles Zac had placed; and yet seeing this tribute provided a sense of solace that starts a healing process. Thankyou Zac...Thankyou Costas...Thankyou Johnny and every one that has always been an extension of the great person Bill was. If pain is a measure of the greatness a person held on our earth, Bill certainly achieved a greater glory eternally. Coreen and Jeff.

Such a great loss to the community and all those people whose life he touched. I met Bill when we opened the Fishkill Branch of PSB. He fast became a mentor and friend and that carried through for many more years at the Bank. After we both moved on he even tried to teach me how to be a waitress at Tutti Quanti's where it was more like a place to come and socialize with the community and eat really good food. If I needed to get advice or just a laugh I could always stop in there anytime and find him waiting with a warm hug and a smile. I missed him when he opened his place in Cold Spring but would run into him from time to time around town. My thoughts are with his family and close friends who will miss him most as he had a larger than life presence and I know he was so important in their lives.

Mrs. Sohan, Billy, Brian and Brendan,
I am so sorry to hear of Mr. Sohan's passing. I have been thinking of him often, especially as Steve and I had our rehearsal dinner at Tutti Quanti's and that is where we first told our parents I was pregnant with Keara during one of their many Friday night dinners there. We recently took friends to Whistling Willie's, where we were able to chat and catch up with him over a drink.
I know that he is in good company now and I hope you are able to find peace.
Love, Aimee
