Lois Rider Obituary

Lois A. Rider, 71 of 2801 Highway 6 East, Iowa City died at her home surrounded by her family Sunday, January 4, 2009.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 9, 2009, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11a.m. Thursday until services at the funeral home. Casual attire is encouraged by Lois's family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Iowa City Hospice in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web at www.gayandciha.com.
Lois Ann Niemoth Rider was born November 14, 1937, in Sheldon, Iowa the daughter of Hubert and Harriet N. (Kuyper) Niemoth. She attended schools in Sheldon graduating from Sheldon High School in 1955. On August 23, 1958, she was united in marriage to Richard P. Rider in Sheldon, this past August they celebrated fifty years of marriage. For over twenty-seven years she was employed by the U.S. West (formerly Northwestern Bell) as an information specialist in the Iowa City, retiring in 1993. Lois enjoyed much in life, but most important to her was her family, she was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, and grandmother!
Her family includes her husband, Richard; six children, Jeff Rider of Iowa City; Richard Rider (Julie) of Iowa City, John Rider (Rita) of Iowa City, Lori Seydel (Ted) of West Liberty, Lisa Krause of Swisher, and Jill Good (Randy) of West Branch, 19 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, a sister, Marleen Holden of Killian, TX; and special companion, her pet cockatiel, Harry!
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Karen Barkley.
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Lois's family and her services.
