Remi Cadoret

Remi Jere Cadoret, 77, died Saturday, November 12, 2005 at home of prostate cancer.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2005 at Agudas Achim Syna-gogue. Burial will be in Cedar Township Cemetery, Solon. Friends may call Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, 605 Kirkwood Avenue, Iowa City.
Dr. Cadoret was born March 28, 1928, in Scranton, Penn., the son of Jere R. and Wilhelmina Egen Cadoret. He graduated from Scranton High School, 1945, from Harvard College, Magna cum Laude, 1949 and from Yale University of Medicine, 1953. He served in the U.S. Air Force 1955-57, where he delivered 500 babies. This was followed by research at the Duke University Parapsychology Laboratory in Chapel Hill, North Carolina before he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba and a position at the University Of Manitoba College Of Medicine. In 1965 he went to Washington University in St. Louis where he completed a psychiatric residence and then rose to the rank of associate professor prior to joining the faculty of the University of Iowa as Professor of Psychiatry. He served as the Director of the Iowa Consortium for Substance Abuse and Evaluation. Retiring in 1998, he continued his research as professor emeritus, using adoptee studies to study gene-environment interaction with a focus on antisocial behavior and substance dependence. He authored over 170 professional articles and co-authored "Psychiatry in Primary Care" with Dr. Lucy Jane King.
In addition to belonging to numerous professional associations, he was a member of the Iowa City Early Keyboard Society. He built two and a half harpsichords and was an avid keyboard player.
In December 1950, Dr. Cadoret married Helen Virginia Springer. They later divorced. He married Jeanne Marie Miller in October 1969.
He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; his children, Ruth, of Madison, Wisconsin; Jere and wife Cheryl Seeger of Rolla, Missouri; Natalie Freeman-Cadoret, her husband Fred Freeman & their children, Pauline and Ella of Kennewick, Washington; David of New York, New York; and also by his mother-in-law, Amanda T. Miller of Iowa City, Iowa.
