Adeline S. Thorpe, 97, of Endicott, NY died September 3, 2009 at Vestal Nursing Center, her home for the past 6 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert; daughter, Marilyn; sister, Rita; and special friend, Doris McCarthy. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Deborah Thorpe; grandson, Joshua Thorpe; granddaughter, Stephanie and her husband, Lt. Benjamin Holbus; and her niece, Elsie Thorpe. Adeline was a long-time member of Union Presbyterian Church and served as their financial secretary for many years. She was also a member of Round Hill Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She retired from Vestal Central Schools where she was employed as a home economics teacher. Sewing and knitting for herself, her family and friends, and many mission projects of her church were things Adeline enjoyed doing. Reading, travel, cooking and baking were life-long hobbies. During her years at VNC, she was proud to say that she became a "hooker" of latch hook rugs. Mrs. Thorpe's family would like to thank all of the staff of Vestal Nursing Center, and especially those who work on Willow Ridge East. In many ways, large and small alike, they showed their love and compassion for Adeline. We will always think of them as friends. Funeral and Interment Services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM from the Coleman and Daniels Funeral Home, Inc., 300 East Main St., Endicott. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Endicott at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 12:30 PM till 2:00 PM.
