Charles F. April 18, 1913 to December 24, 2001Charles F. Ganter, 88, GANTER
of Ideal Senior Living Center in Endicott, passed away December 24, 2001 at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City. Son of George and Catherine Ganter, he was born in Watertown, N.Y. and graduated from Watertown High School. He was a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Clarkson University in Potsdam, N.Y., obtained teaching certification at SUNY Albany and completed graduate studies in advanced technology education at Cornell University. He taught technical education at Remington Institute in Watertown before joining General Electric in Syracuse as an Electrical Engineer. There, he held various positions, including Manager of Quality Control. He retired from G.E. as a Sales Engineer in the G.E. Overseas Dept. where he had been involved in television broadcasting installations in Venezuela, Guatemala, Mexico, Spain, Turkey and other countries. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers. At G.E. he was a member of the Elfin Society and G.E.E.G.A. Golf Association and won many golf trophies. He was a member of Fayetteville Central City Masonic Lodge 305, A.A.S.R. Bodies in the Valley of Syracuse, Scottish Rite and Tigris Temple Shrine. He was active in promoting fund raising for the Shriners Hospitals for Children through the Shrine Circus Programs of Syracuse. After retiring from G.E., he moved to the St. Petersburg area in Florida with his wife, the former Florence Wilbur, where they resided for over 20 years. For several summers, they returned to their cottage at Panther Lake, N.Y., which they owned for 30 years. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church at Indian Rocks Beach, Fla. and transferred to All Saints' Episcopal Church in Johnson City. Survivors include his wife, Florence, residing at Ideal Senior Living Center in Endicott; a son and daughter-in-law, G. David and Frances Ganter, Endwell; a granddaughter, Susan Grab, Underhill, Vt.; a grandson, Charles D. Ganter, Philadelphia; and three great grandchildren in Vermont. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 6, 2001 at 1 p.m. at All Saints' Episcopal Church in Johnson City. Interment will be at North Watertown Cemetery.
