of Peckville, Pa.
Claire Scanlon, 80, of Peckville, Pa., went to be with the Lord on August 3, 2003. Claire is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Scanlon) Cox, Owego; her daughter and son-in-law,Sheila (Scanlon) and Louis F. Bertoni Jr., Owego; her sons and daughters-in-law, J. Brian and Kathleen (McDonald) Scanlon, Owego, E. Kevin and Helen Scanlon; her son, Sean Scanlon; daughter-in-law, Anthionette Scanlon; her sister, Lois McHale; her brother and sister-in-law, John W. and Marilyn Barrett; her sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Tom McDonald, Owego; her sisters-in-law, Marie Barrett and Margaret (Scanlon) O'Leary; brother-in-law, James O'Leary; as well as the "lights of her life," her 16 grandchildren, Kelly, Molly, Caitlin, Jack and Patrick Scanlon, Ryan and Briana Bertoni, all of Owego, Shane, Savannah, Sierra, Kevin, Brighid, Brendan, Michaela, Quinn, and Alanna Scanlon; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Claire was predeceased by her husband, John H. Scanlon Jr.; her parents, Mary (Egan) and Edward Barrett, Sr.; her brother, Edward Barrett Jr.; her mother and father-in-law, Mary (Price) and John H. Scanlon Sr.; her son-in-law, Evan J. Cox; her sister and brother-in-law, Jane (Scanlon) and Robert Moran; sister-in-law, Mary Scanlon; and brother-in-law, Paul Hastings McHale. Claire learned to tell stories as an apprentice under her father and kept her family, (and particularly her grandchildren), constantly entertained. In addition to her humor, Claire leaves a legacy of love and generosity. "It is not what you give but what you share, for the gift without the giver is bare."
Services were held on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 in Pecksville.
