Earl Steinbrecher Obituary

Steinbrecher, Earl

Windsor: Earl Steinbrecher, 71, of Windsor, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, January 2, 2012, after a long and courageous battle against Parkinson's and heart disease. Earl and his wife Marcia happily celebrated 48 years of marriage in December. He was a devoted father and friend to his sons, Earl, Kirk (Kim) and Eric, and the proud grandfather to Cole, Carter, Candra, Corbin, Lyndsey, Jessie and Lexi. They were truly the light of his life. He is also survived by his sister, Wanda Osterhout; brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Ellen) McNulty, June McNulty and Frances (Manny) Fassono; and many nieces and nephews. Earl was an avid runner and continued running and competing long into his battle with Parkinson's. Until October, he could be seen running the streets of his hometown of Windsor. Earl competed in many road races with his sons and grandchildren. He completed 8 marathons, including Berlin, Germany and Boston, both of which were run with his son, Earl. Another passion was snowshoe racing. He won several medals in the NY State Empire Winter Games. He was proud of his sons and grandchildren for continuing the running tradition, something he started 25 years ago. His favorite place was his home. Earl loved the outdoors and especially hunting and fishing with his sons. Playing his guitar and singing was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed reading, especially history and the Civil War. Earl had a great sense of humor and quick wit that all who knew him enjoyed. Earl proudly served in the US Navy from 1958-1961 and was a member of Iron Worker's Local 158. He and his wife owned Steinbrecher Steel Services, Inc. for over 25 years. Thank you to his buddies from "coffee time" at Marion's and his longtime friends Doug, Bud and Pete. Earl was predeceased by his parents, William and Katherine Steinbrecher; brothers, Francis, William, Conrad, Joseph and James; and a sister, Rosella; also two special brothers-in-law, Ray Osterhout and Ron McNulty. The family will receive friends from 3-6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 on Saturday at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home Inc., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carmella McNulty Memory Clinic Fund, Binghamton University Foundation, PO Box 6000, Binghamton, NY or the Windsor Fire Company.

To the Steinbrecher Families,
My condolences to the Steinbrecher families. I always admired Earl's support of Windsor's sports and how he taught his sons to respect others. I enjoyed his son's in wrestling and competiting "way behind" them( Earl sr & jr)in snowshoeing. I still admire that watering trough donated to the village of Windsor by the Steinbrecher family, a place in time. BILL McCann

We are so sorry to hear about Earl. He was a wonderful man and always willing to pitch in and help anyone in need. I will always remember our talks at the wrestling matches while the boys wrestled. I will never forget driving along the roads in windsor and seeing Earl running and saying to myself, I want to be like him, god bless.

Earl was an amazing man...I used to play tennis and wrestle with him and we would have so much fun...but he always beat me!!!! He was the most athletic man I ever knew and had the driest sense of humor...an amazing person. Although it has been a few years since I saw him, I will remember him at 18, smiling that smirk and having a beer together (it was legal then!!!!). Marcia, you are an amazing woman putting up with ERF all those years. Earl was lucky to have you. Know he always spoke so highly of his family. Bill Miles
