Gloria Whitmore Obituary
Owego: Gloria M. Whitmore, 70, of Valley Road, passed away with her family at her side on Monday evening, October 20, 2014. Gloria is survived by her husband, Ronald; her children, Corrine Whitmore of Nichols; Jamie (Krys) Whitmore of New Jersey; Ron (Michele) Whitmore of Vermont; Chris (Lori) Whitmore of Rome, NY; her grandchildren, Terry-Lynn (Ted) Herman; Trisha (Tony Mayo) Varga; Zach, Noah and Hannah Whitmore; Kayla and Dylan Whitmore; Faith and Eve Whitmore; great grandchildren, Edyne, Ty and Immy; her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Verna Miller; Paul "Skip" (Diane) Whitmore; Myron "Butch" (Shirley) Whitmore; Gary Whitmore; several nieces, nephews and their families also survive. Gloria was predeceased by her parents and a sister June Holcomb. Gloria was born on July 14, 1944 in Manhattan, NY a daughter of the late June and Adele Gloria (Mora) Holcomb. Gloria was a graduate of Owego Free Academy and attended Broome Community College. For many years, she was employed at the Frost-Klossner Insurance Agency as there office manager. Gloria was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Owego. She was a former Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, an original member of Children for AIDS; Citizens Action of NY and many will remember her for the dedication as a long-time member of the Tioga County Democratic Committee. Gloria enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Tioga Opportunity Center handcrafting ceramics with the "Clay People". Her greatest pleasure was being surrounded by her family. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation and time of sharing memories on Friday, October 24, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Funeral services and a celebration of Gloria's life will be held on Saturday, October 25 at 11 a.m. at the funeral chapel with her pastor Rev. Aaron Schian, officiating. Interment and prayers of committal will follow in the Gibson Corners Cemetery. Ron and Family, Joann and I will always remember the friendship our families had as we raised our families together,the vacations and etc. Gloria was a lifetime friend to us who be remembered by her smile,laugh,and Giving of her time and talent to worthy causes. She was a blessing to all who knew her. We're sure God has a special place for her in Heven.

Ron and family. I was so saddened to hear of Gloria's passing. She and I were in school together back in the day when we were seated alphabetically. Since both our maiden names started with H, we were always right next to each other. My prayers go out to your family.

I was so sorry to read of Gloria's passing. Gloria and I were in the same home room from Junior high through high school, shared classes and were also friends. After graduation our lives took different paths, but would occasionally cross at the grocery store or post office and it was like we were back in school.....chatting and laughing and catching up on each other's lives. She had a great laugh and beautiful smile. Family and friends alike will indeed miss her presence. Rest in peace my friend.
