John Baranyk 96 of Yablonytsia, Ukraine and Johnson City entered into eternal rest on May 12, 2017. He reunited with his wife of 64 years, Josephine who predeceased him as well as his brothers Bill and Roman, sisters Olga and Genia and nephew Andrew Baranyk.

He is survived by his sister Sophie in Ukraine, godchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews; most especially Dorothy Klaczany, Connie Baranyk, Walter, John, and Andrew Czebiniak and "good friend" Bill Klish, who lovingly saw to his needs and honored his wish to remain in the home that he loved.

John came to the United States in 1951, having survived the ravages of WWII and forced labor. He was a barber by trade, worked for Endicott Johnson and retired from St. John's Social Club, serving as Hospodar for more than 20 years. He was an active member of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a member of the Social Club Board of Directors, and secretary of the Ukrainian National Association and the Local Ukrainian Congress Committee.

He was a gentle man and a well respected member of the Ukrainian community, with a wealth of knowledge and history. He could fix anything, loved people and enjoyed life. All who were fortunate to have known him will cherish his memory. Veechnaya Pamiat!!!

A funeral service will be offered by Rev. Father Ivan Synevskyy on Thursday 11am at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St. John's Parkway, Johnson City. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Rev. Synevskyy will conduct a prayer service 6:30 pm Wednesday at the Chopyak-Scheider Funeral Home, 326 Prospect Street, Binghamton where the family will receive friends Wednesday 4-7pm.
