John Fordham Obituary

Fordham, John M.

North Hampton, NH: John M. Fordham, 69, of North Hampton, died Wednesday, July 4, 2012, at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, MA following a brief illness. He was born in Plattsburgh, NY, September 3, 1942, the son of the late Edward B. and Helen (Baker) Fordham. After his father's death in WW2, he was raised by his mother and stepfather, the late Bernard Defayette. He was a graduate of Plattsburgh High School, attended State College in Albany, NY and resided in New Hampshire for the past 20 years, coming from Johnson City, NY. Mr. Fordham spanned several careers, beginning as an ironworker in New York. He later owned and operated Manley's Tavern in Johnson City, NY, and currently owned and operated Inn-Time Furniture and Fixtures, which specialized in hotel renovations. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Plattsburgh, and enjoyed boating and spending time with his grandchildren. Family members include his wife of 19 years, Kathleen (Kost) Fordham of North Hampton; a son, John Fordham; and daughter, Kuerstin Fordham-Macedo, both of Hampton; two brothers, David and Larry Defayette of Plattsburgh; two sisters, Barbara Lucas of Platsburgh and Ellen Drewlink of Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren, Natalie Stio, Madilin Roat, and Jaemi, Autumn, and Makayla Macedo; and many nieces and nephews. John was old school, where a handshake with a client was as good as a contract that the job would get done. Long talks with his children and grandchildren guided them to the values that would serve them well in their lives. His friends were often the recipients of any help that was needed and that generosity was also extended to those less fortunate. He showed his love for his wife in the day-to-day routine that becomes a life shared with all its ups and downs and settles finally into the calm of knowing a deep heartfelt love where words are unnecessary. He was a special man. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, July 12, 2012, at Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church, 289 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. Relatives and friends may call Wednesday, July 11th, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Celiac Disease Foundation, 20350 Ventura Blvd Suite 240, Woodland Hills CA 91364 or Chief Michael Maloney Memorial Fund Inc., C/O First Colebrook Bank, 2400 Lafayette Rd, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
