John J. Gyles, Jr., 91 passed away on Sunday, September, 13, 2015 at the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, NY. He is pre-deceased by his parents, John J. Gyles, Sr. and Jennie (Foyt) Gyles, two brothers, Stephen and James Gyles and a sister, Jean. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Marie Gyles; eight nieces and nephews; Patricia Gyles, Michael (Henrietta) Gyles, Stephen (Suzanne) Gyles, Mary (Mark) Faraldo, James (Michele) Gyles, Joanne (Patrick) Golden, Christine (Seth) Kaeuper, and Kathleen (William) Tillotson. He is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews and two special great nieces, Danielle Gyles-Zito (Jesse) and Jenny Gyles and a special great nephew, Jon Gyles. Mr. Gyles served 30 years in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. After retirement from military service he worked in maintenance with IBM in Endicott, Vestal and Glendale. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11:30 am at the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St. Endicott, followed by a Funeral Mass at 12 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 801 Main St., Vestal. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City with full military honors. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home on Friday from 10:30-11:30 am. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to The Wounded Warrior Project or to the NYS Veterans Home at Oxford.
