John Signorelli Obituary

John J. Signorelli

Newark Valley - John J. Signorelli, 74 of Newark Valley, NY, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, June 4th, 2021. He was predeceased by his parents Anthony R. and Joan A. Signorelli; his brother-in-law Wayne Hogeboom, and sister-in-law Christina Rice.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years Marsha(Feltes) Signorelli; three children Jean C.(Bruce) Spiegel, Anthony J.(Heather) Signorelli, Marco V.(Jessica) Signorelli; four grandchildren Lauren and Sophia Spiegel, Lilyana and Abigail Signorelli; his sister Joan Marie Hogeboom; his brother-in-law Joseph Rice; two aunts Maryann(Robert) Sincavage, Angela Wallan; his nieces Brenda(Edward) Bernhauer, Jill(Carl) Beebe, Lori(John) Kupiec; along with several other nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.

John was a graduate of Union Endicott High School, Class of 1965. He went on to attend Cornell University, graduating in 1969, where he met and married his wife Marsha at Sage Chapel. He earned his Masters at Binghamton University and began his teaching career. John dedicated his life to teaching and coaching, retiring after 32 years from Whitney Point Central School District as a science teacher. John was an entrepreneur his whole life, buying and renovating residential and commercial properties and co-owning and operating Signorelli's Car Washes with his family.

John grew up in Endicott, surrounded by a large, close-knit Italian family. His enjoyment of gardening and winemaking was passed down through his Grandfather and Father and John enjoyed teaching these skills to his sons. John was very connected to his Catholic faith, he was a lover of animals which included the occasional stray pony or calf that moved in, but his love for his dog Shadow was the most special.

John had four active Granddaughters and he loved nothing more than attending their performances, sporting events, and spending time with them at the cottage on Cayuga Lake. His love of adventure and new experiences was evident in the traveling he did with his children; camping, Hawaii, Greece and Italy. Most recently he accomplished his boyhood dream of becoming a pilot and co-owned his own plane, soaring over the Triple Cities and PA.

John enjoyed working at his businesses and developed many enduring friendships over the years with neighboring business owners and community members. He will be greatly missed by his devoted family, friends, and customers. The family would like to extend gratitude to the Lourdes at Home staff, especially his nurse Sarah. Funeral services and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Patrick's Aurora Cemetery, PO Box 296, Aurora, NY 13026, where John will be interred overlooking beautiful Cayuga Lake or to the Broome County Humane Society, 167 Conklin Ave. Binghamton, NY 13903.

I'm so sorry for your loss! Mr.Sig gave me lasting memories as my science teacher, kapish? He was fun, witty, and so smart and kind! A blessing to have known him into adulthood, as I joined the WP faculty and also saw him at Most Holy Rosary events.

To the family so sorry for your loss. Me. Sig was a great teacher. I had him for 7th grade science back in the 80s. I will never forget the 2 events that happened in class that has stuck with me the most. The one is the day he had the preserved rattle snake and put it on my table. When I got to class I screamed as if I was being murdered. He asked what's wrong with me screaming like that and I said oh Me.Sig I am afraid of snakes his answer was is that all. The next event is when we dissected the worm and frog. I said hey Mr. Sig do you have any rubber gloves I can narrow he said no why your not a Dr you don't need them. He would always make you laugh when you had a bad day. You were awesome Mr. Sig and will be teuely greatly missed.

Marsha, I am crushed.

John and I were friends from third grade onward, in the same classes every year through the UE schools. While we saw one another less often as adults, we remained friends, and his intelligence, calm, and generosity have always been an inspiration.

I have heard that the sign of a real friendship is the ability to not see one another for a long time but to instantly pick up where you left off upon meeting again. That describes us.

If you find a moment some time soon, perhaps you could message me (he and I were on both email and FB) and tell me how to find his new place at St Patrick's Aurora, for I will want to visit regularly

All best wishes for strength and peace,

Mike Mee

John was a high school classmate of mine as well as a neighbor. I recently “spoke” with him on Facebook about my old family home, which a member of his family purchased.
It was so nice talking to him after all that time and catching up.
Rest In Peace, John.

Mr. Signorelli was one of the best teacher I have crossed paths with. He was a great guy and knew how to connect with his students And get them engaged. I would have to credit Mr. Signorelli with making me aware of my impact on the environment before it was a big deal. We studied landfill and the topic of 'Not in my backyard'. A good human for sure... he may be gone but his impact will last. My condolences to the family.
