of BinghamtonJohn A. McAvoy, 76, of Binghamton died Thursday, May 30, 2002 at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital following a long illness. He was predeceased by his parents, Edward T. and Mildred McAvoy and a brother, Edward J. McAvoy. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alene; his children, John E. McAvoy and wife, Donna of Florida. Connie A. McAvoy, Binghamton, Robert J. McAvoy and wife, Donna of Binghamton, Kathleen Brash and husband, Charles of Florida. Thomas A. McAvoy and wife, Lora, Apalachin; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; very special friends, Rick and Lorraine Lamereaux, Ernie and Phyllis Giordanni and Rodney Monk. He was a retiree of the IBM Corp. with 35 years of service and also retired from the U.S. Defense Logistics Agency in Hillcrest. He was a Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 1645 and the V.F.W. Post 478. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson St., Binghamton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Friends are invited to call Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
