Mary (Murphy) Johnson Connerton
of BinghamtonMary (Murphy) Johnson Connerton passed away August 1, 2003 as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident on July 25, 2003. Mary felt her life had many blessings. She was predeceased by her wonderful parents, Winifred (Crull) Murphy and Atty. Thomas J. Murphy; her husband of 17 years, James P. Connerton, on July 26, 2003; and her husband of 31 years, William H. Johnson Jr. in 1981; her brother, Thomas J. Murphy, M.D. She is survived by her seven children, Katy (Christopher) Wolf, Lexington, Mass., Amy (Anthony) Devaney, Boston, Mass., William H. (Michele) Johnson III, Martinsburg, W.Va, Martha (Leonard) Steed, Quaker Lake, Pa., Julie (Kevin) Heslin, Binghamton, N.Y., Thomas A. Johnson, Nantucket, Mass., Joseph F. Johnson, Brackney, Pa.; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Devaney, Atlanta, Ga., Andrew (Jeanne) Wolf, Somerville, Mass., Sara Devaney, Boston, Mass., Caitlin Wolf, Washington, D.C., Kevin Wolf, Lexington, Mass., Laura and Delia Heslin, Binghamton, N.Y., Emma Steed, Quaker Lake, Pa., and Shelby Johnson, Martinsburg, W.Va.; two stepsons, James H. (Debbie) Connerton, Garner, N.C., and Dennis (Sue) Connerton, Sunrise, Fla.; and four step grandchildren; her siblings, William T. (Shirley) Murphy, Binghamton, N.Y., and Hon. John F. (Lois) Murphy, Big Moose, N.Y.; four sisters-in-law, Hunnie (Russell) Murphy, Syracuse, N.Y., Sarah Jane (Johnson) Ryan, Johnson City, N.Y., Ann Murphy, Vestal, and Jeanne Hoch, Binghamton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. She was a graduate of Saint Paul's High School, Binghamton, N.Y., and The College of Saint Rose, Albany, N.Y. Mary taught surgical nursing for many years at City Hospital in Binghamton. Mary had many interests, belonged to several organizations, and was past President of the Monday Afternoon Club. Her joy was her family and she enjoyed skiing, golf, crafts and traveling. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church.
A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Patrick's Church on Monday, August 4, 2003 at 10 a.m. The family will receive friends at the McDevitt Bros. Funeral Home, 88-90 Front St., Binghamton, on Sunday, August 3, 2003 from 2 to 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers charitable contributions in her name may be made to the Discovery Center of the Southern Tier, 60 Morgan Rd., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903.
