Mary "Granny" Weiss

Mary Weiss, 88, left this world to join her Lord and Savior on December 31, 2010. Mary came into this world weighing less than 2 pounds. She is predeceased by her parents, Lester and Leona Ehrets; her husband, Robert Weiss Sr.; granddaughter, Vicky Heier; three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her eight children, Ginger Slicklin, Robert and Colleen Weiss Jr., Raymond Weiss, Roger and Renee Weiss, Richard and Linda Weiss, Suzanne and Gary Heier, Jack and Trish Weiss, Robert Sheriff and Lynn Weiss; as well as 19 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Pearl and Chuck Jackson; and a brother, David and Carole Ehrets of Florida. Mary was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Binghamton. She worked for IBM Endicott and GAF prior to her marriage to Robert Weiss Sr. and then co-worked with her husband in his private construction business while raising her family. Mary loved her family and others unconditionally, and her house always felt like home. Hard-working, nurturing, caregiver, and selflessly supportive to those in need are but a few descriptors of "granny". Mary delivered several of her brothers and sisters, raised her own children, and even raised some of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She took great pride and pleasure in cooking and entertaining her large family, and enjoyed her favorite pastime of feeding birds, squirrels and bear! Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 5 at 11 a.m. at the Wm. R. Chase & Son Funeral Home, 737 Chenango St., Port Dickinson with the Rev. William Snyder, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until time of service. Mary will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Glenn Castle Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Mary's memory to Meals on Wheels of Western Broome County, 705 W. Main St., Endicott 13760. Mary and her family would like to thank Meals on Wheels for the invaluable service they provided during her illness.
