Maura Waters Obituary
of Vestal
Maura Lawrence Waters, 59, of Vestal, formerly of Greene, died unexpectedly Sunday, August 31, 2008, at Binghamton General Hospital. She was predeceased by her parents, Murtha and Rosemary Lawrence. She is survived by her sisters and brothers, Claire and Ernest Pollman, Indian Lake, Rosemary and Bob Trabucchi, New Bern, N.C., Sheilagh and Jim Menzies, Bolton Landing, Andy Lawrence, Endicott, Mary and Pat Hulser, N. Brookfield, Mass., Kevin Lawrence, Buffalo; her sister and best friend, Nancy Lawrence, Binghamton; several nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her dear friend, Penny French, and all the members of ACHIEVE Talking Hands. Maura attended New Life Ministries, Endicott, and graduated from St. Agnes Academic High School, College Pt., N.Y., and attended St. Mary's Hospital, Bayside, N.Y. She was a dedicated caregiver to her father, Murtha Lawrence and was manager of Pilot Travel Center, Kirkwood, for many years.
Memorial services will be held at New Life Ministries, 201 Hill Avenue, Endicott, Wednesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, at the convenience of the family. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Tuesday from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in memory of Maura may be made to ACHIEVE Talking Hands, 125 Cutler Pond Rd., Binghamton, N.Y. 13905.

I first met Maura in 1977 when I moved to Austin, TX. Her husband at that time is my cousin. She made me feel like I was her best friend. She had an amazing gift with interacting with my then young children. I have warm memories of our many long conversations on the phone. I felt like I knew all her family members in New York. I especially remember her great sense of humor even while she went through some serious health problems. I am sorry I lost touch with her when she moved to NY from TX. I have had and will always have a warm spot in my heart for Maura. I am sorry for her family's loss.

Maura was one of the best friends I had made after moving to the area a year ago. We shared everything together. Work isn't and never will be the same. She will be greatly missed. Deepest regrets and my condolences to all family and friends. We miss you Maura!

Maura was my very best friend back in the mid-70's when she was living in Houston, and her husband was my husband's best friend. We always had a good time when we were together. We lived in the same apartment complex and saw each other every day (and ate almost every meal together). I can't count the times I've laughed (and cried) with her. I loved her so much that we named our daughter after her. She's a definite one of a kind, and will be missed by so many. Our hearts go out to her family.

I was so blessed to have met Maura and to become her friend and adopted sister. It is hard to put into words all she brought into the lives of each signer in the group. She was loved by each one and will live on in our hearts. This years concert will be dedicated to her. I am so sorry I could not do more.

To Nancy, Penny and Family. I am so deeply sorry for your loss. Maura was an incredible individual who will be greatly missed by so many. With out Maura I would never have gotten involved with the Talking Hands Group and all the great people involved with that and I thank her for the opportunity to take part in something that ment so much to her. I have to say that with all the things her and I have talked about her family was always number one on her list of discusion. By her family I don't just include her blood relatives, but also, Penny all of talking hands and Phil with her Pilot family. She always told me about them before she would talk about herself. She was and always will be an insperation to me. I miss her so much and I can only imagine the loss you all feel. She lives on in all of us, and that makes me feel so great. If anyone needs anything please call me.
