Newark Valley - Michael Glen Jerkes, 57, of Newark Valley, passed away suddenly on Jan. 5, 2019. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 37 years Karen Jerkes; son Daryl (Sarah); Daughters Tiffany (Kurtis) and Sarah (Dustin); brother Steve (Katelyn) Bruster; sister Vicky (Stan) Olkowski; sister-in-law Jeannie Kay; and 8 grandchildren. Mike was predeceased by his brother Joseph Jerkes; father Joseph Jerkes and mother Myrtle Bruster; and step father Henry Bruster. Michael Jerkes was a man full of life and love for his family. He was a great outdoorsman and loved to hunt, fish, and kayak. Mike was an honest man with a great sense of humor and was well known as the life of the party. Whenever Mike arrived at any gathering you would be sure to hear people saying "Jerkys here!". Mike enjoyed Nascar, playing softball with the Pikers , hanging out with his friends playing backyard croquet and darts, and was often found playing poker or golf on his phone. He volunteered at the local bluegrass festival and was often seen accompanied by his canine companion, Maggie, in the sidecar of his motorcycle. Above all, Mike loved his children and his 8 grandchildren, Cayliegh, Alex, Jay, Lyla, Aurora, Carson, Grace, and Peyton- they were his world. Mike's family will receive friends at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley on Saturday Jan. 12th from 1:30 pm until 4:30 at which time a service of remembrance will take place.
