Myrtle Ruth Lewis
of Chenango Forks
Myrtle Ruth Lewis, 85, of Chenango Forks, was called home to be with the Lord Friday afternoon, March 19, 2004 at the Susquehanna Nursing Center. She was born April 15, 1918 in Johnson City, N.Y., the youngest of three daughters of the late Hayes and Mary Wheeler. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Verner G. Lewis; her two oldest sons, Donald and David; and her two sisters, Genevieve and Mildred. Surviving are her youngest son, Verner G. Lewis Jr. and his wife Vera, Unityville, Pa.; her daughter, Mary Beth Jacobson and her husband Thomas, South Portland, Maine; and the three daughters she gained upon marrying Verner in 1953, Carol Fargnoli and her husband Anthony, Chenango Forks, Sharon Lewis and Gayle Lewis, both of Binghamton. Also surviving are several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, including a new great-granddaughter born March 20, 2004; and two nieces and a nephew. Myrtle was a faithful long-time member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, which she served in several capacities. She was a gifted homemaker, loving wife, mother and friend and we will miss her very much, but gain comfort in the fact that her earthly struggles are over.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 22, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day-Saints, 305 Murray Hill Road, Vestal, N.Y. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Monday from 12 Noon until time of services. Arrangements are by the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main Street, Johnson City, N.Y.
