Olga (Kulyk) Tarcha Drost passed on peacefully September 15, 2008 at James G. Johnston Memorial Nursing Home. She was born in 1916, daughter of Anthony and Oksanna Kulyk, and graduated from Johnson City High School. Olga was predeceased by her husbands, Michael Tarcha, Sr. (1978) and William Drost (2002); sister, Natalie Leska Boser; brothers, Joseph and John Kulyk; daughter-in-law, Mary Tarcha; niece, Alexis Kulyk Mihalko. She is survived by children, Michael, Nicholas A. (Nancy) Tarcha and Jane De Hawkhurst; grandchildren, Michael and David Tarcha, Nicholas (Patti) Tarcha, Nancy (Jim) Skojec, Amy and Jennifer Cordick; great-grandchildren, Sarah (Todd) Parsons, Nathan Cordick, Andrew and Jenna Tarcha, Jeffrey and Thomas Skojec; great-great-grandchild, Benjamin Parsons; stepchildren, Gary W. (Mary) Drost, and their children, Teresa and Jeffrey; Charles E. (Lorraine) Drost and their children, Joy, Heidi and Nathan; cousin, Nicholas (Jayne) Sawchuk; sister-in-law, Alice Kulyk. Also many other nieces, nephews and cousins. She was a member of St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Johnson City. God granted her 92 long and active years caring for family, church and community from Republican Women's Club, Girl Scout Leader, Hospice volunteer to Church School Teacher, St. Mary's Sisterhood, and St. John's Memorial Center volunteer. She artistically created Ukrainian eggs, ceramics, and embroidery, and loved singing in the church choir. Her home was refuge to many as she nurtured and cared for family, extended family and friends - there everyone called her 'Mom' or 'Baba'. Her gracious spirit will continue to inspire those who knew her to become better persons. Thank you to the special people who kindly cared for Olga at J.G.J Unit 2 over these last years.
Funeral Services will be held at St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 1 St. John's Parkway, Johnson City, Thursday at 10 a.m. The Rev. Zinoviy Zharsky, pastor of her church, will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main Street, Johnson City, Wednesday from 5 - 8 p.m. Rev. Zharsky will conduct a prayer service (Parastas) at the funeral home, Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to the St. John Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery Fund or a charity of one's choice, in Olga Tarcha Drost's memory.
