Dear DeLuca Family,
I wanted to send a little note telling you how much your relative was appreciated. My mom was a nurse many years ago. She worked with Dr. DeLuca and Dr. Storrs on North Tower 2 at Wilson Memorial Hospital. I heard her talk about both of them often. She thought so highly of Dr. De Luca, saying what a good doctor he was, as well as a wonderful person; full of compassion and empathy. I am sure there are many people who were touched by this great man. God Bless You.

March 15, 2011

Dear DeLuca Family,
Dr. DeLuca and I became friends almost 30 years ago, spending countless hours assisting each other in local hospital operating rooms. He was a capable and kind man with a passion for improving lives that sometimes escaped other physicians--approaching each case, each patient, with a sense that all life is worthwhile and but for the grace of God go we. Many times he would relate to me how conflicted he felt when he would care for an child with a brain injury and then return home to his wonderful family and loving wife, Dorothy, the glue that held him together to perform his work. Paul's attitude and response to patient's needs served as a wonderful role model for the many medical students that accompanied our work together--to quote Maxwell Maltz, Paul very much believed that having a project with hope was a key to a good life "..“People who say that life is not worthwhile are really saying that they themselves have no personal goals which are worthwhile. Get yourself a goal worth working for. Better still, get yourself a project. Always have something ahead of you to ''look forward to'' / to work for and hope for.”

To The Family:

Gretta and I deeply regret that we cannot be with you at this time of mourning for Paul. However, knowing the family, I am sure there will also be a celebration in honor of Paul’s life.
Through my eyes, I saw Paul as devoted family man, a teacher, leader, mentor, colleague, compassionate physician and business partner. But most of all Paul was a dear friend.
As a young neurosurgeon, Paul was available to me day or night for advice, encouragement and to lend a helping hand. Throughout our practice time together we spent many hours together in the office and operating room doing what Paul did best, helping others.
Paul was always a friendly, kind, witty and a physician with a reputation of excellence. He brought a new era of neurosurgery to the Southern Tier. He allowed the rest of us who followed him to practice our professional skills in a community devoted to the highest of quality of medicine. Paul was a force his entire medical career for excellence at the hospital, county and state medical organizations. His leadership was well recognized, not only by his peers but the entire community.
For all of us who knew and worked with Paul, our professional lives have been enhanced. All those who knew Paul personally, you have been blessed.
Paul was a dear friend. Our time together will never be forgotten! David

To the DeLuca Family,
My sincere condolences at the death of your Father. I remember both of your parents quite well from my years at St. James. No doubt your Father was an excellent physician, but he was also a very kind, compassionate, and deeply spiritual person. I knew him as a parishioner, a physcian, but more importantly as a friend. When I had back surgery, he was retired, but came to observe the surgery and was there in the recovery room when I awoke and filled me in on the surgery. Even after that, he came to the rectory to check on me. Often before Mass he was in Church praying his rosary. I so enjoyed our conversations! He has left you a wonderful legacy of family, faith, and service. Please know of my prayers for this wonderful man and for you. I imagine there is a great reunion in heaven!
