Richard P. (Dick)
Spencer
of Binghamton
Richard P. Spencer, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 8, with his loving wife of 53 years and his family by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Edgar Arthur and Shirley Spencer; sister, Nancy Snyder. He is survived by his wife, Dawn Spencer; his children, Richard Spencer (Kathy), Brenda Taylor (Michael), Jeffery Spencer (Mary), Dale Spencer (Korin); his brother, Edgar Spencer; sister, Leisa Boadway; nine grandchildren, Chris, Tyler, Meghan, Abigail, Chelsea, Hannah, Jessica, Riley Spencer, Mathew Cacialli. Richard was a veteran of the Korean War and worked for Allstate Insurance for 34 years. He was an avid antique car restorer and collector. He was also a member of Fairview UMC. He loved spending time with his family and "Bucka" was a consummate role model for his grandchildren. His fighting spirit will sorely be missed.
A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 11th, at Fairview United Methodist Church, 254 Robinson Street, Binghamton. The Rev. Cordella Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Glen Castle Cemetery. Friends may call at the Thomas J. Shea Funeral Home, Inc., 137 Robinson Street, Binghamton, NY Thursday, June 10th, from 4 till 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make memorial contributions to Fairview United Methodist Church or to Lourdes Hospice, 169 Riverside Dr., Binghamton, NY 13905 in memory of Richard P (Dick) Spencer.

been swimming at Kathy's parents house everynight. It reminds me of when i was young. We talk about you everynight. It makes me feel better. I remember when you taught me to swim and dive and i always enjoyed it so much. Love you dad. Miss you so much. We all do.

Your Mets are doing so good. Alex hit a homerun last night that made me happy. They were saying that they can't really stand the fact that David Wright didn't make the top votes on the allstar team and i wanted you to know that i voted for him and Reyes and i did it for you and i also think they both deserved it. I love you so much Dad. Dale and i talk about you everynight as we walk to try and get healthy. I miss you beautiful face and i miss talking to you everyday. Tillie and mom miss you. Life just isn't the same without you.

Hey Dad,
I mowed the lawn tonight and was hoping you would come over and tell me a better way to do it. I told mom about the time a few months ago when you told me you mowed out back and told me i needed to keep up with the mowing. I think you thought i let it get too long. This father's day was a hard one. I called the phone today at your house because i knew mom wasn't there and i could hear your voice on the machine.

I wanted to tell you that Tillie still waits for you everyday. Dale was telling me that she keeps laying under the kitchen table but i think she started doing that before you got sick. I took her for a car ride yesterday and she seemed to like that but when i took her to work she cried the whole time. She is something else and i feel bad for her and how much she misses you.

Ever since that incredibly hot day of your marriage, which I remember clearly, you and Dick have been two of my favorite people. Even though we have seen little of each other the last few years, my understanding of your kindness and calmness together has always been important to me. Hi Dawn,
I forgot to add, when we were on the phone the other night ,I was going to suggest if Dick were in any kind of responsive mood ,to relate to him the time when he and I and Gene Mazza and Gene's grandfatherI('m sure there were others) were in the 'play pen 'and pouring some babbitt bearings, that we were not sure it would work. Gene's grandfather suggested that we wipe the part with
"lip-a-stck".All during the proceedure Gene's grandfather admonished" don't forget "lip-a-stck".Everytime we did somehing ,he'd say, don't forget the " lip-a-stck",
I never heard Dick laugh so hard and so long when that phrase was uttered. What a sense of humor! I'm sure Gene Mazza remembers, as do I (and Dick).

Dick was a wonderful person and a good Christian man - he helped me many times when I was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church. His death is a great loss to the community.

Dear Spencer Family,
All of us in the Pergl family are saddened to learn of Dick's passing. Decades worth of memories came flooding back and we will re-live the good times of car shows and picnics that our families shared together while thinking of you all in the coming weeks. For myself, I add memories of seeing Dick in the kitchen at church dinners and behind the desk ready to accept my car insurance payment! What a wonderful man, our family was blessed to have known him.

Dad,
Rick is picking on me again. He was busting me about the time I fell through the ceiling in the backroom right after you had told all of us to be carefull if we had to go upstairs and where not to walk. I was thinking at the time you were not too happy with me. Could you tell Rick to stop picking on me? Or would you just laugh along with him? I wonder. What about the time i had the car accident and Rick had to carry me out of the car and he told you his back was never gonna be the same.

My condolences to the Spencer family. Dick was always a ball to work with at NuLook. He dished it out as much as we gave it! I enjoyed working on the T Bird in the beginning stages and not to long ago he had stopped to show it off to me. A man who will be truly missed.

Dad
You could never know how much i really loved you. When i was young i always remember you coming home from work and walking in the door with that smile of yours. I remember sometimes i would say to you "Its gonna be a bad day at work today". You would say "If thats the way you feel going into it then thats the way it will go" You would say that I was the only one who could change it. You taught me to always be positive and to be happy at anything i ever did. I will always miss you and i wanted to say thanks for leaving me a wonderful mom and three boys that you raised to be as great as you were.
