Stanley W. Fairchild
of Greene
Stanley W. Fairchild, 81, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2003, at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, after a long illness. He was predeceased by parents, William and Inez Fairchild; two sisters, Dora Edick and Myra Pidgeon. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty Lou Fairchild, Greene; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Ann Fairchild, Greene, Danny and Nancy Fairchild, Dryden; a daughter, Julie Ann Fairchild Bolender, Norwich; four grandchildren, Maressa and Sam Fairchild, Dustin and Dallas Fairchild; stepgrandchildren, Natalie Sherwood, Albert Jr. and Nick Pittarelli, Anthony Bartolone; one great-stepgranddaughter, Kayla Pittarelli; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Peg and Lee Moxley, Greene, Joan and Charles Stewart, Trumansburg; sister-in-law, Katherine Harrington, Greene; several nieces and nephews. After graduating from Greene High School, Stanley worked at Scintilla in Sidney. He then worked at N.Y. Air Brake in Watertown, helping the war effort. After the war he returned to Smithville to work on his family farm. In 1951 Stan and Betty Lou moved to Greene where they were involved in the farming business until Stan went to work at the Raymond Corporation. He retired from the Raymond Corporation in 1987 after 21 years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Greene, and was a former member and Master of the Smithville Grange. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.
Funeral and committal services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the Root Funeral Home with Rev. William McCall, pastor of his church, officiating. Burial will be in Sylvan Lawn Cemetery, Greene in the spring. Friends of the family may call Tuesday, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Root Funeral Home, 23 N. Chenango St., Greene. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Greene Emergency Squad, the First United Methodist Church, Greene, or to the Greene Grange.
