SUSAN ROBINSON MESSINA
of Johnson CitySusan Robinson Messina went to be with her Lord on Friday, June 22, 2001. She was born on November 9, 1929 to John W. and Mabel A. Youngs Robinson. Susan's mother, Mabel, passed away in December of 1935. John married Mabel's sister, Susan A. Youngs DePuy, in October of 1937, and together they raised Susan. Susan is survived by her husband of 49 years, Phillip T. Messina; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Suzanne Messina, vestal; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Robert Breidinger, Maine, N.Y.; four grandchildren, Barry Breidinger, Morgan Messina, Allison Breidinger and Christopher Messina; her sister, Olive DePuy, Sun City Center, Fla.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Thomas and Else Traver and their children, Kristen, Hillary, Ryan and Alexander, Cary, N.C. have enjoyed a very special relationship with Susan and her family and been a source of blessing over many years. Susan was a long time elementary school teacher, retiring from Glenwood School in the Vestal Central School District in 1985. She made a positive difference in the lives of many students and families over the course of her career. Susan was a member of the Vestal United Methodist Church, the Tau Sigma Sunday School Class, the Disciple Bible Study and the Louneta Lorah Circle. She was a long time volunteer and board member of the Broome County Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. A gathering of friends and family will be held at 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Monday at the Vestal United Methodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Memorial Fund of the Vestal United Methodist Church, the Arthritis Foundation, the American Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are by the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St., Johnson City.
