Suzanne Slimbaugh Obituary

Slimbaugh, Suzanne Longpre

Suzanne Longpre Slimbaugh of Vestal, NY and Jupiter FL, passed away after a brief illness with family by her side on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Suzanne was born in raised in Bethesda, MD, and graduated from The Immaculata School and Georgetown University School of Nursing. She served in the United States Navy as a Registered Nurse. After moving to the Binghamton area in 1971, Suzanne became an energetic volunteer in many endeavors, including the Junior League of Binghamton, The Lourdes Foundation, Catholic Charities of Broome County and The United Way. As her children grew older, Suzanne began a new career in Financial Services, ultimately helping many families in the Binghamton area to strive to achieve their financial goals. She was an active and contributing member of any community in which she found herself. She enjoyed golf, mahjong, bridge and cards of all kinds. Her greatest pleasure came from being with family and friends, and she stood out in a crowd for her laugh, her stories, her pleasant and energetic demeanor, and for her ability to gather information, or perhaps better said, 'to get the scoop.' Suzanne is predeceased by her loving husband of over fifty years, Dr. William Slimbaugh, and her parents, Henri and Catherine Longpre. She is survived by her children, Kimberly Anne (Ruth Sullivan), Teresa Anne, and William P. III (Sarah). Grammy Suz will be sadly missed by her beloved grandchildren, Riley, Will, Jeb, Maggie and Addie. She also leaves behind a brother, Richard Longpre, several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews and cousins, and more friends than anyone could wish for from Binghamton to Florida and places in between. The family would like to thank Dr. Omer Sagcan and the incredible and compassionate nursing staff at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center in Syracuse for their treatment and family support. A Funeral Mass will be offered at St. Vincent de Paul Blessed Sacrament Church, Clubhouse Road, Vestal, Monday at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the J.A. McCormack Sons Funeral Home, 141 Main Street, Binghamton, Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Suzanne's name to The Lourdes Hospital Foundation, 169 Riverside Drive, Binghamton, 13905 or The American Heart Association, 59 Court Street, Binghamton, NY 13901.

I was so saddened to learn of my old friend Suzanne's passing....we were classmates at Georgetown U. School of Nursing..class of 1963...I well remember when I first met Suzanne...as a "day hop"our freshman year she had no fixed place to hang out when we were not in class...that first day she popped into my roommate Gaye and my room and the friendship began then and continued through our years at GU...she used to have us over to her home in Bethesda where we we were treated graciously by her parents...we lost contact as the years went by...except for school reunions....saddened by Bill's passing.. we reconnected at our 50th nursing school reunion where we caught up on a variety of things....she always spoke warmly of the "kids" so that I felt I knew them! It was then that I learned she had had health problems but was keeping going..Please accept my belated condolencesand know that I and all her GU friends hold her memory in a warm place in our hearts!

Suzanne was a lot of fun and always knew the scoop. No man could tell us not to be on the course at any time, I heard her tell them about it too. Condolences to her family. Donna Stack

I didn't know Suzanne for long, but enjoyed our trips together to Florida, and to see her children and grandchildren. I know she loved you all very much, she couldn't wait to see each and every one of you. A man who lost his young wife said at her funeral; If she only had that much time on earth, I'm glad she spent it with me. I am glad I had a chance to meet Suzanne, and I will miss her.

I will miss my friend, Suzanne, whom I have known for over 40 years. We had many good times in the Jr. League, on the golf course and over a bridge table. She was quite a "Lady". My prayers are with the family.

For many years in my employment at Tioga County Personnel, Suzanne was one of our business vendors, and always very professional but at the same time so friendly and it was great working with her.

Suzanne will be missed at book club. I loved her sense of humor, getting the "scoop", and her smiling face. Thinking of all the family.
