DR. VINCENT GRANT HAMMOND, M.D HAMMOND
of Chenango BridgeDr. Vincent Grant Hammond, M.D., of Chenango Bridge, passed away Monday, May 21, 2001 at his home. He was predeceased by his brother, Dr. Willis E. Hammond in 1990. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy J. (Havell) Hammond, Chenango Bridge; his daughters and son-in-law, Dr. Janice H. Hammond, Belmont, Mass, Carolyn A. and Allyn N. White, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a sister and brother-in-law, Eleanor J. and G. Grant Wilcox, Seattle, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Eunice B. Hammond, Lansing, Mi.; grandchildren, Kelly A. and Casey A. White; also several nieces and nephews. Dr. Hammond was a graduate of Syracuse University and Hahnamann University School of Medicine and was an Honorably Discharged WWII veteran of the Army Medical Corps. Shortly after discharge from the service, he joined the medical department of the Security Mutual Life Insurance Company and at the time of his retirement in May of 1984 was serving as Security Mutual's Vice President and Medical Director. As a member of Associates in Medicine, PC and more recently, United Medical Associates, he continued to serve as Consulting Medical Director for Security Mutual Life Insurance Company and for Columbian Mutual Life Insurance Company until 1994. He was a member of the Chenango Bridge 1st United Methodist Church. Dr. Hammond was a member of the Broome County Medical Society of the State of New York, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Insurance Medicine. He was past Chairman of the Medical Section, American Council of Life Insurance and a Diplomate of the Board of Insurance Medicine. He was active in various community affairs and was a member of St. Marks/Philetus Lodge 1001 F & A.M. and the Antient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Binghamton. He was past Patentate of Kalurah Temple A.A.O.N.M.S., past Director, Royal Order of Jesters, Binghamton Court No.61 and Emeritus Member of the Board of Governors, Shriner's Hospital for Children, Springfield, Mass. A Memorial service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. from the Chenango Bridge 1st United Methodist Church with the Rev. Judith Wanck, officiating. She will be assisted by the Rev. Edwin C. Schumacher and the Rev. Jose Valencia. Burial will be in the Chenango Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
