Walter Prusik Obituary

Walter Charles Prusik
formerly of Kirkwood
Walter Charles Prusik, 84, rejoined his many loved ones on October 25, 2007 after a year-long illness. He was a Binghamton native formerly of Kirkwood, who loved this area. He moved to Phoenix, Arizona for health reasons and to be near his daughter and grandchildren, but he always considered Binghamton home. Walter was a veteran of World War II and served in Europe with the 250th Signal Corps. He also served in Korea as Sergeant First Class with CO "C" 712th TROB. He was an active member of the VFW Post 6625, while a resident of Kirkwood. He retired from United Airlines as an R&E Mechanic after nearly 30 years based in Newark, N.J. and working in the NY Metropolitan area. Walter was an avid hobbyist in the electronics and computer field, and he actually built his first television before most households were aware of its existence. He added to his family's income while employed by the Jersey Central Railroad with a television repair service. His wife of 52 years, Alma Rinebold Prusik, died six years ago. They leave behind three children and seven grandchildren: Regina Rielly and her husband, Kevin, reside outside Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; their son, Gerald Prusik and his wife, Jill, reside in Denver, Colo.; and their daughter, Karen Vanderpoel and her husband, Jim, who have cared for their father these past couple years, reside in Phoenix, Ariz. Walter and Alma's grandchildren are Liam Rielly and his wife, Aaisha, Bowie, Md., Caitlin Rielly, Saratoga, N.Y., Zachary Prusik, Denver, Colo., Alex Prusik, Seattle, Wash., and Gena, Victoria and Joshua Vanderpoel, all of Phoenix, Ariz. Walter is also survived locally by one sister, Stella Sullivan, Binghamton; and his devoted brother-in-law, Harold Stegemann, Conklin; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at the J.F. Rice Funeral Home, Inc., 150 Main St., Johnson City, Monday at 9:15 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, Kirkwood, where a Funeral Mass will be offered. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 p.m.

Sorry I couldn't make it up there but please accept my condolences. (Uncle) Walter was quite an interesting fellow & I always got a kick out of his wry humor. We cousins have spread out coast to coast now but we will always have those core memories of the simpler times of our youth & families to draw upon. Stay warm & well.

Dear Karen & All Family, I am soooo sorry to hear about Uncle Walter. I know he will be missed. What I remember most about Uncle Walter (and your Mom, too!) was them doing a Polka at my Wedding in 1986 in Maryland. I always thought it was so neat how much he and Grandpa looked alike! Can you just imagine the party they are having up there now! Your Mom & Dad, my Dad & Grandpa and, ofcourse, Aunt Pat! (My Mom and Grandma are prolly just sitting back and shaking their heads! LOL!!) My deepest sympathies go out to everyone. All of my Love, Beth (Prusik) Parks & Family
