Bill and Lela Carden are my G_dparents. Both of my parents died years ago, and I have moved from the region so, I didn't here of his passing at the time.
But, I always have him in my thoughts around this time of year.
I'd just like to say he took his responsibility as G_dfather very seriously
When my father passed unexpectedly, just before Thanksgiving in 1992, when I was a teenager, Bill not only was the person called upon by my mother and her best friend Lela in the situation of my da's sudden heart attack...
He further took upon the task of being the one to pick me up from high school and have to manage the ridiculously unthinkable balance of retrieving me after that trauma and navigate a situation with a very sensitive girl to get her to the hospital where my family was gathered knowing my da was deceased.
It happened 31 years ago this time of year and I regret never thanking him for that.
On a light note (comedy=tragedy+time), the walk he took with me (yikes, difficult having with one's own) before heading off to college to have the "birds and bees" conversation...awkward for us both : ) Just further proof he took his role seriously.
Your G_ddaughter,
Julie
But jeesh a testimony to a difficult task for a man that took his oath seriously.
Anyway, he did what he knew my dad would want. I may not have expressed it at the time, but it mattered and he did well.

Lela and family,
My heart goes out to all of you. Bill was one of the most incredible people I had ever met. Kindness and the love of his family was what he did and loved most. I was good friends with Bill not only at IBM but as a friend outside of work with Lela. You are all in my prayer.

Lela and family,
Please accept my condolences. Bill and I worked for years in Equip Services Function. Bill and I had many great conversations over the years about sports and our Irish heritage. Bill always spoke highly of my wifes cousin Father VanAmburg. We both had twins graduating from Vestal this year as well and Ive been thinking of Bill a lot recently.
Please know that Bill and all of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. May he rest in eternal peace and happiness.
