William Grausgruber Obituary

William Grausgruber

Windsor, NY - On July 3, we lost our beloved father, William T. Grausgruber (Bill), 82, of Windsor, NY. He passed away after a long struggle with Parkinson's. Bill was predeceased by his parents Albert and Marion Grausgruber; sister Mary Ann, brother Tommy and granddaughter Gretchen.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Sandra; children, Lisa Stanard, Nancy Colburn (Bill), Matt Grausgruber (Carolynn), Jill Houseknecht (Jason), Tom Grausgruber (Missy) Grandchildren; Curtis, Mark, Joe, Katy, Gracie, Emmi, Mitchell, Dalton, Jamie, Taylor, Rachel, Sarah, Kassie, Keegan, Dylan, Ryan, Matthew, and Hunter, Great Grandchildren; Elijah and Genevieve; sisters Peggy (Paul), Francy (Don) and brother-in-law Chuck, and numerous nieces and nephews that he truly adored.

Bill was a native of Susquehanna and attended Laurel Hill Academy. He received his BS in Art Ed. at Kutztown University and completed his graduate work at SUNY Binghamton, Cortland and Buffalo. He worked for WSKG, STETA and for over 30 years, as an Art teacher at the Windsor School district where he inspired many and was known to spend late nights with the ladies at Monday night art class.

Bill was an accomplished artist most known for his realistic landscapes of our area. But his talent was not limited to just paintings. He also sculpted in clay and wood, did taxidermy, painted on motorcycles and trucks, murals, icons for the church and signs for the Village of Windsor to name a few. In addition, he was extremely charitable. He donated works to many causes and organizations. He was deeply religious, attending Our Lady of Lourdes in Windsor. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, motorcycle riding, taking photos for his paintings and spending time with his family.

We will be forever grateful to the staff of SNF for their continuous and dedicated care of our dad, especially in the time of quarantine when his family could not be present.

We have lost one of the most humble, quiet, honest, loving individuals to walk this earth. He will be missed dearly and we cherish every moment we were blessed to have with him.

We will welcome friends and family to Hennessey's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave, Susquehanna, PA on Monday July 6th from 4 to 7 p.m. A private funeral for the family will be offered on Tuesday July 7th. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Parkinson's.org in memory of William Grausgruber.

Bill was a gifted teacher, compassionate, inspirational, and loved working with young adults. He was also a gifted artist. I have a "Grausgruber" hanging in our home. It is another version of one hanging in the high school except modified to reflect my service to the school. I think of him every time I pass it. I will always remember him as a fine teacher and gentleman. Our condolences. Larry and Kathleen Chizak

am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr.Grausgruber. We have a few beautiful pictures he made but one special drawing was a drawing of the house I grew up in Windsor. My mother gave him a photograph of it and he made a large drawing of it and framed it! Looking at it on my wall brings back so many memories. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family.

I am saddened by Bill's passing. Not only was he an outstanding teacher at Windsor, he was also a wonderful man. I had the good fortune to work with Bill for 15 years, and was also lucky enough to have him be my son's art teacher. When he had electives in his undergraduate studies he opted to take an art class because of the instruction he had received from Mr. Grausgruber.

Upon my retirement I was presented with a gift that I cherish; an original Grausgruber painting of the Windsor High School. It was the first painting he did of the school with the additions to the high school building itself. It hangs in a prominent place in my home.

My deepest sympathies to the entire Grausgruber family.

My parents very proudly hung a painting of Mr Grausgruber's on our living room wall. I think it was a present to our Dad when he retired as Principal of Bell Elementary. Keep painting beautiful blue skies in heaven.

Sandy,Tom I am so very sad to hear that Bill passed away. He was a great and caring teacher. I had him as a art teacher back in the 70s, I couldnt draw worth a lick but he encouraged me to draw a bowl of fruit and it didnt turn out have bad. He had patience and praised the work just for trying. Tom worked for me at McDonalds that is how I met you Sandy. You are all a wonderful group of people. Bill is now flying with the angels and when I see beautiful scenes in the sky I will think of him and his fantastic artwork. Prayers and caring thoughts to all of you. Sincerely Sandie Price

When I was a student at Windsor High School (graduated 1981), I looked forward to signing up for art classes each year with two of the finest teachers in the area, Joe Trapper and Bill Grausgruber. Mr. Grausgruber was a phenomenal teacher and artist. He had such a dry sense of humor that took me a while to grasp (my shortcoming, not his). He had a knack of asking questions about the piece his students were working on in order to help them think the process or the execution of the piece through. He lead me to create some wonderful pieces, some which are hanging on my walls. They remind me of his patience and the lessons he was trying to teach us: perspective, shading, line, volume, shape, foreground, flow. His teaching was like that....He is loved by many, will be missed by all. My condolences to his family and friends on the loss of this wonderful man.

Ken and I would like to send our sincere condolences. We fondly remember the time he came to our home and painted the den wall with a beautiful fall farm scene. Watching him paint with such care and detail will always be a special memory for us. He would only take a sip of coffee now and then, we watched as the 6 x 12 foot painting came to life. A wonderful gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers to the family. God bless.
