William MacKechnie Obituary

William (Bill) MacKechnie

Greene - William (Bill) MacKechnie, 65, of Greene, NY, beloved husband, father, brother and friend passed away on February 22, 2021 due to complications from Covid.

He was predeceased by his parents, Wallace and Margaret MacKechnie.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth MacKechnie, son, Ian (Jen) MacKechnie, grandson, Wallace, and a second soon-to-be Scottish lad or lassie in July; his brother, Tom Mackechnie and sister, Lucy Silverstein, both of Endicott; sister, Penny (Jon) Mayes of Venice, FL; David Silverstein and Christine Showalter; his beloved Corgi Holly, and countless friends around the world.

Bill grew up mostly in Port Jervis and moved to the Southern Tier in the early 70's. His greatest passion was his music; he was a talented songwriter, composer, singer, and guitarist. Bill founded and owned Random Bullet records and compiled numerous CD's as lead artist of his Indie band, Anubis Spire. Always interested in history and mythology, Bill composed haunting songs of mystery, magic, and spiritual insight.

He was quiet and reclusive, but his soul encompassed the world. We will always remember the incredible depth of his knowledge and breadth of his interests.

He was an avid reader who loved unsolved mysteries and arcane facts, and no conversation with Bill was ever dull. He had a quick wit and incisive sense of humor, and he'd always cut to the heart of any matter with some wry observation. "Yes….yes he did… "

His heart held sympathy for all creatures great and small, and his kind and capable hands were always ready to be at the service of a friend who needed help. He was taken from us way too soon, and our hearts are truly broken by his loss.

Due to Covid restrictions, there will be no funeral service at this time and a celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the heroic doctors, nurses, and staff of Wilson Hospital who worked so tirelessly to keep Bill with us.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Bill's memory to St. Jude's Research Hospital for Children, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Wow, just found out about Bill´s passing! I had the privilege of singing and drumming on many of Bill´s original compositions.

What a joy that was as Bill was one of the most creative and original sounding guitarists I´ve ever worked with.

Rest In Peace Bill. My prayers are with loved ones you left behind.

RIP bill, a great musician and a wonderful human being. We never met in the flesh, but our on line chats were wonderful. You will be missed
